Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Communication typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Position Summary:
    The Director reports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and works closely with the Provost office staff. The Director provides leadership for the development and implementation of the School's vision and mission within the scope of the larger University vision and mission, and is responsible for the School's effective operation including its Oregon Center for the Arts component. Participates in the Academic Director's Advisory Council and other university wide committees as appropriate.

    This 1.0 FTE position is encouraged to teach one course per year.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Appropriate terminal degree and academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor within a department represented in the School.
    At least two years of experience as Department Chair or higher, or equivalent.
    Demonstrated ability to manage an academic enterprise.
    Demonstrated ability to effectively represent School programs to the external stakeholders and community partners.

    Preferred Qualification :
    At least three years of experience as Department Chair or higher, or equivalent.
    Familiarity with producing and/or presenting artistic events.
    Tenure or Tenure eligible at current institution.
    Demonstrated experience with enrollment management, including recruitment and retention strategies.
    Experience managing an academic enterprise that includes an arts communication, and or media organization.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.

    Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.

    Demonstrated ability to interpret and consistently apply a wide variety of complex policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not always exist.

    Ability to work with frequent changes in policies and procedures, under pressure of deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.

    Ability to proactively assess work operations and anticipate potential problems; ability to develop and implement strategies for preventing/resolving problems.

    Ability to effectively perform work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature that requires access to information. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, tact, and diplomacy.

    Initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing work assignments within broadly defined parameters.

    Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.

    Special Conditions
    Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
