  • ACLC is seeking qualified and motivated instructors to provide high quality training for US Navy personnel attending the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) course. Training is a combination of classroom and lab application.

    Support and instruct various assigned topics for classes of up to 62 students up to 23 times per year. Each class is 12 days long, conducted in both classroom and field (austere) settings. The training program is determined and managed by government employees and naval personnel.

    When not directly involved with students, instructors will participate in other support activities, i.e., course development and preparation, research, or other support functions necessary to facilitate training. Course support duties may include:

    • Contract Instructor Training
    • SERE subject matter and class preparation research and analysis
    • Student Management Support
    • Distribution, issue, management, and repair of student gear
    • Training scenario "in-role" assignments as stipulated in course curriculum
    • Preparation of Remote Training Site (RTS) student training and demonstration areas (e.g., student shelter construction, wood cutting, and snow removal).

    Assist in the classroom preparation, student administration, test proctoring, and safety procedures to avoid interruptions in the training day. Instructors are to promote a safe and secure environment conducive to learning for courses supported under this contract.

    General Qualifications

    • Possess high personal standards of technical knowledge and professional competence in delivering training material.
    • Possess the ability to perform in a military environment.
    • Possess a familiarity with the organization and hierarchy of the U. S. Navy, military rank/grade structure.
    • Possess a knowledge of Navy and military terminology, and shipboard/installation environments and configurations.
    • Possess a knowledge of basic and advanced training techniques, and of computer technology applications as they apply to instructional delivery.
    • Have knowledge of DoD procedures for the handling of classified material, DoD SERE and Personnel Recovery publications supporting Code of Conduct training, and the capability to access those publications.

    Basic Instructor Qualifications: Qualified instructors shall possess one of the following qualifications:

    1. Have attended the Navy Instructor Training Course (NITC) (A-012-0077) (or military service equivalent)
    2. Academic credentialing (teacher/professor)
    3. Instructor training via an academic institution. Academic ITC requirements should contain at a minimum, these Learning Objectives:

    (a) Effective communication and questioning techniques

    (b) Adult learning theory and principles

    (c) Instructional Delivery methods

    (d) Lesson delivery performance laboratory

    (e) Training environment management

    (f) Inter-personal skills

    (g) Evaluation and Feedback

    Must have direct experience as a current or previously qualified DoD SERE Instructor at a Joint Personnel Recovery Agency (JPRA) certified Level "C" Code of Conduct School.

    Must have graduated from a Level "C" Code of Conduct course of instruction, and be capable of demonstrating knowledge, through interview, of SERE training and special duties associated with such training evolutions.

    Must possess and maintain a SECRET clearance

    Must possess a current certification in Basic First Aid as defined by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or through the Military Training Network (MTN). This certification must be current as of the date that the instructor reports for duty.

    Must possess a current certification in CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) by a recognized (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) organization. This certification must be current as of the date that the instructor reports for duty.

    Must have direct experience as a current or previously qualified DoD SERE Instructor at a Joint Personnel Recovery Agency (JPRA) certified Level "C" Code of Conduct School.

    Must be willing to perform light custodial tasks (take out the trash, light sweeping and vacuuming, etc) in assigned work areas.

    Must be willing to temporarily reside in and provide around-the-clock support and instruction in austere field conditions for up to 7 days.

    Periodic travel to remote locations required.

    Must successfully pass psychological screening

    Physical Requirements:

    Instructors will participate in SERE training events in rough terrain, in varied climates (cold/hot/wet/dry/humid/snow/rain), requiring the ability to lift/carry 45 pounds, walk up multiple flights of stairs, walk up to six (6) miles per day with a rucksack, and provide up to ten (10) consecutive hours of instruction. Consequently, all COC/SERE instructors must possess and maintain the physical fitness and conditioning necessary to deliver this training. Each instructor must demonstrate the capability to successfully perform these duties by the successful completion of a Work Capacity Test (The test consists of walking two (2) miles on level terrain with a 25-pound pack in 30 minutes.) as part of the overall hiring process, and twice a year thereafter. All employees will acknowledge in writing that they understand that dangers, stress, physical hardships, and field living conditions are possible as an instructor, and that they will be expected to demonstrate fitness and conditioning on an annual basis.

    Successful candidates are expected to sign a statement of understanding regarding physical fitness. COC/SERE training should be considered rigorous, involving potential danger, stress, physical hardships, and field living conditions associated with SERE training.

    Must meet dress code and grooming standards. During academic or classroom instruction and SERE class debriefings, Contractor employees shall wear business casual (serviceable collared shirt, long pants (no blue jeans), closed toed clean shoes, and no baseball hats). Instructors shall maintain specific guidelines regarding grooming standards similar to those contained in Section 2, Chapter 2 of the Navy Uniform Regulations with the exception of the prohibition of facial hair. Beards and mustaches are acceptable, provided they are neatly trimmed.

    Instructors may be required to complete client-mandated training requirements on matters such as: Sexual Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment, Equal Opportunity, Personal Privacy, Safety, Bloodborne Pathogen Training, Information Assurance (IA) and Counterintelligence Awareness and Reporting (CIAR) training.

    Position is contingent upon successful completion of drug screening, medical screening, and psychological evaluation.

    Within 12 months of hire, instructors will be required to obtain certification as a Wilderness First Responder. This certification provides for advanced training in a wilderness environment with varying weather patterns, temperature fluctuations, and fatigue caused by the movement over our rough and varied terrain, while focusing on those injuries and ailments most commonly encountered in these settings.

    Position is contingent upon contract award.
