Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and Computer Science learning incorporate and encourage problem solving, creative and critical thinking, curiosity, decision-making, persistence, acceptance of failure, real-world applications, creativity, and more. It has been stated that more than 80% of jobs over the next decade will require STEM skills, and preparing our students for the future is key. Through STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), and Computer Science, our identified GT students will have additional learning opportunities for enrichment and extensions.. This will include hands-on experiences, as well as opportunities to see connections to possible future careers. Embedding elementary GT services back into the school day has been the priority all year, and this arrangement will allow each school to do this, serving intellectually gifted students in grades 2-5 and academically gifted students in grades 3-5.(It should be noted that differentiation for ELA and math, including enrichment and extension, will be provided by classroom teachers, answering question 4 of the PLC process.) What will the STEM/Computer Science and GT Teacher’s job entail? •Follow the PLC process oIdentify grade level essential standards for science and computer science oImplement curricula and academic interventions that meet grade-level standards oDevelop and implement assessments that measure students’ progress toward grade-level standards oUse student assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices •Facilitate high quality, engaging instruction for science and computer science learning for grades K-5 oUtilize discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations, and independent practice using a variety of proven methods oIncorporate Next Generation Science Standards and Idaho Content Standards for Computer Science into unit plans and lessons oUtilize Amplify Science as the main, district adopted resource for NGSS-aligned materials oDifferentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of ability, instructional level, or level of interest in the subject. oEmbed the following into teaching and learning: Encourage curiosity Make predictions Experiment Make mistakes Learn Create Connect to the world •Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues •Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that excites and invests in students •Provide enrichment and extension opportunities through STEAM, and computer science for identified GT students oGrades 2-5 for intellectually gifted identified students oGrades 3-5 for academically gifted identified students oFacilitate Social Emotional learning opportunities for identified GT students to include the following: Teamwork Communication Ingenuity Creativity Critical thinking Problem solving Decision making Resilience Leadership •Pursue professional development activities to broaden and deepen knowledge of content and teaching skills and continually identifies professional needs and develops strategies to meet these needs •Strong communication skills, both orally and writing •Excellent organizational skills •Technological literacy •Other duties as assigned Job Skills and Qualifications Required: •K-8 All Subjects certification •Strong communication skills, both orally and writing Preferred: •Required Professional Learning and Professional Growth oAttend Edufest, Monday, July 22 - Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Boise •Gifted and Talented Endorsement
