    Brief Description of Duties

    University of the District of Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) invites applications for one full time tenure-track faculty position in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The appointment is expected to be effective August 2024.

    The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for a faculty colleague who is committed to student learning and professional development, collaborative research, growth and quality of our degree programs and research portfolio. An earned doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field is required. Expertise is preferred in digital signal processing, artificial intelligence, control, electronics, and communication. The candidate intends to be an outstanding teacher and scholar committed to working with diverse student body and community. The position involves undergraduate and graduate teaching, student advising, and research in electrical engineering and related fields including the broad areas of computer engineering. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor tenure-track faculty.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Faculty duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate students, conducting high-quality research by collaborating closely with the department’s established teams, participating in, and developing externally funded research projects, publishing papers in refereed journals, performing academic duties, university services, and professional services, and contributing to maintaining ABET accreditation.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related disciplines with a focus on digital signal processing, artificial intelligence, control, electronics, and communication.
    • Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (with a listing of academic publications, separated according to refereed journals vs conference proceedings vs conference presentations), research statement, teaching statement and a statement of commitment to advancing equity and fostering an inclusive and diverse community in academia.

                   A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:

    1. A doctorate degree.
    2. At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.

    Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.

     

    When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.


    A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following

    qualifications:

    1. A doctorate degree.
    2. A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
    3. At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor.

    Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.

    Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

    Residency Preference: 
    A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
     

    Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

    Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
