    The work is performed in a forest and rangeland environment in steep terrain where surfaces may be extremely uneven, rocky, covered with thick tangled vegetation. Temperatures are frequently extreme, either from the weather or from the fire. Smoke and dust conditions are frequently severe. Hazardous nature of the work requires there to be Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing provided by company.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    Minimum Age: 18

    Initial Entry Level Wildland Firefighter Training Class
    OR Annual Wildland Firefighter Refresher Class and supply the certifications.
    Pack Test/Work Capacity Fit Test Arduous Level,
    IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System and supply the certifications.
    IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System and supply the certifications.
    1st Aid/CPR training every two years keep in your possession at all times.
    Performance Task Books (PTB). *For FFT1, and ENGB/CRWB’s need.
    Furnish own personal gear (i.e. tent, sleeping bag, pillow, clothing, boots, etc. and personal supplies).
    Be available on-call during fire season to travel in & out of state for extended periods of time.
    We do not house employees; you are responsible for your own relocation and housing.

    Supply Clean/Negative Drug Test results.
    Pass a Background Check.

    Consistent Phone Communication- Need current working number for contact as on -call basis.

    PHYSICAL FITNESS LEVEL TEST CERTIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
    NWCG PMS 310-1 Work Capacity Fit Test completed/passed at “Arduous” Level: The pack test is a job-related test of the capacity for arduous work. It consists of a 3-mile walk with a 45-pound pack over level terrain. A time in under 45 minutes, the passing score for the test. Approximates an aerobic fitness score of 45, the established standard for wildland firefighters. The energy cost of the test is similar to the energy cost demanded on the job. The test is correlated to measures of performance in field tasks such as working with hand tools or carrying loads over rough terrain and with measures of aerobic and muscular fitness. The test’s length ensures that successful participants will have the capacity to perform prolonged arduous work under adverse conditions, with a reserve to meet emergencies.

    FEE/CHARGES/COSTS:
    Initial wildland firefighter training and annual fire fighter refreshers are at no cost to FSE students!

    Upon transfer on request of certificates, no student charge for class.

    FEMA IS-700.B, and FEMA IS-100.C = no cost –must be completed online.

    Returning FSE employees - 2nd year no cost RT130 without lapse of seasonal work.

    DMV INFORMATION
    Required Driver License: No, preferred.

    HOURS:
    Typically -Shifts for day average - up to 12-16 hours per day and up to 14- 21 day assignments per government orders;
    Upon Government orders: possible for more.

    SALARY/WAGES/PAY:

    - 2024 pay to be determined depending on experience [DOE]
    - Health and Welfare is for the first 40 hours in the workweek on Federal Jobs, only.
    - After the first 40 hours of workweek, pay is time & ½ of the base pay.
    - Paid Bi-weekly

    While on paid assignment:
    Lodging, meals, and showers provided in/by fire camp camping area

    WORK SITE
    Areas to be dispatched overnight will be throughout the United States. Majority of dispatches will be in the Western U.S. First Strike is based out of Roseburg, Oregon. You must be able to respond to base within one hour of call out.
