Spanish is part of our lives in California, connecting us to a diversity and wealth of experiencias, perspectivas y valores lived in comunidad, cultura, familia, amistad, herencia, educacion y trabajo. The SSU Spanish program values what our students bring and honors who they are, where they are from, and who they can become as a bilingual Spanish speaker. The Spanish program at Sonoma State University is a nurturing community of educators and students dedicated to the learning and development of students of Spanish including bilingual Spanish speakers. We are committed to high-quality, versatile education experiences and we work closely with our students to help them accomplish their academic and professional goals. In the SSU Spanish program, every student is valued and provided with access to individual faculty advising and mentoring. Latinx and First-Generation College students are the heart of the SSU Spanish program and our teaching and curriculum honors this fact. Although Spanish is a small program, each semester's schedule offers a mix of face-to-face, online synchronous and asynchronous courses to provide our students with access, support and flexibility to get the most out of their education as they navigate the responsibilities of work, family and school. Duties of the Position

Teach Spanish language courses as needed at all levels, including lower division language and/or culture courses, and/or upper division courses in composition, culture, linguistics, or literature. Candidates will be expected to teach heritage learners, know how to create clear and accessible Canvas course pages, and offer weekly student hours to support student learning.

Professional Qualifications

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have the ability and experience to teach Spanish language courses as needed at all levels, including lower division language and/or culture courses, and/or upper division courses in composition, culture, linguistics, or literature. Candidates will also be expected to teach heritage learners. MA in Spanish (or related discipline) required; ABD or PhD preferred.

Rank and Salary

Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.

• Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
• The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
• Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
• Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
• Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
• Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.
