    The University of Louisville School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology. The Department has a strong tradition of excellence in research, teaching, and community outreach. It consists of 17 faculty with primary appointments and 12 faculty with joint or associate appointments. The faculty is part of a large interactive neuroscience community at U of L that includes basic science and clinical departments, as well as the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, and the Kentucky Lions Eye Center for Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

    The department has a substantial public and private grant portfolio in the neurosciences; research strengths include sensory systems, neural development and plasticity, nerve injury and repair, comparative anatomy, evolution, and health sciences education. The department is comprised of state-of-the-art research labs with shared facilities for neuroimaging, animal behavior, and small animal surgery.

    The department has an extensive teaching mission, providing MS and PhD instruction and training for the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies, and didactic and lab instruction for medical and dental students and residents. The department along with the Dept. of Psychological and Brain Sciences co-directs an undergraduate major in Neuroscience.

    The department has a number of endowments that support student training, travel, and instruction in the Anatomical Sciences and oversees an active Willed body program and a fresh tissue gross anatomy laboratory.     Requirements for the position include a Ph.D. and/or M.D at the full professor level with a research focus in Neuroscience. The ideal candidate should have an established and extramurally funded research program that complements the department's areas of expertise, as well as previous administrative experience relevant to the research, teaching, and service activities of an academic department. This experience should include personnel and budget management, research program building, and mentorship of faculty and students.
