Professor - Mathematics teaches courses in the discipline area of mathematics and statistics. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Mathematics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Mathematics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     LENGTH OF APPOINTMENT: One Term
    PAY RATE: Pay scale varies dependent upon level of education/degree.
    CLASSIFICATION: Instructional
    SUPERVISORS: Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chairs, Program Manager

    Maintain continued competence in assigned and related areas. Maintain a good working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. Assist in the college's recruitment and retention efforts. Assist with college governance by serving periodically on college committees. Observe college rules/regulations and state guidelines appropriate to faculty responsibilities. Teaches wherever and whenever assigned as determined by instructional needs including branch centers and dual enrollment courses in district high schools. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating and Celebrating.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Observe all college rules and regulations, State guidelines and professional mandates appropriate to teaching faculty.
    • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community.
    • Assist with curriculum review and development whenever appropriate.
    • Ensure a clean and safe workspace.
    • Attend all meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Possess the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks.

    • Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment.

    • Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the College’s standards of ethical conduct.
    • Apply effective techniques to create working relationships with others to achieve common goals; successfully communicates and collaborates with others to achieve goals.
    • Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement.

Includes the ability to build &/or support a constructive team spirit where members are committed to the goals and objectives of the organization.
    • Plan, organize and successfully multitask to meet multiple deadlines and frequently new work tasks within required timeframes. Proven flexibility to successfully work on diversified projects at a fast and accurate pace.
    • Effectively manage change and adaptability
    • Adheres to all workplace safety rules, safety laws, regulations, standards and practices.
    • Ability to work various hours including nights, early morning and weekends.
    • Ability to travel amongst various campuses and attend College events, or off campus, as required.

    Minimum Qualifications & Education

    • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or another related field.
    • 18 graduate semester hours in teaching discipline.
    • Ability to demonstrate competence using various virtual meeting platforms.


    Lake-Sumter State College provides limited benefits for part-time employees, not including student employees, who work at least 20 hours per week.
