    Position Purpose:

    The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, a private college of osteopathic medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico, seeks applications from experienced and enthusiastic professionals for the position of Faculty, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) or Dual Appointment to Family Medicine or Internal Medicine with OMM.

    We are searching for a motivated, compassionate faculty member that enjoys clinical teaching for a medical school currently enrolled with a full complement of four years of medical students.

    Teaching experience is favored, but new graduates are also encouraged to apply. Lecture presentations and teaching student labs are equally shared by all faculty across the four years of the curriculum. The ideal candidate will be well prepared to engage students in a traditional lecture and lab setting and to work within the faculty as a team member.  This is a very collaborative position as the candidate will be teaching with other OMM faculty and if additional expertise in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine will be utilized in other clinical courses.

    The candidate should be a person who is passionate about teaching and creative curricular development and enjoys working with faculty members and medical students.  The candidate is expected to collaborate in the development and implementation of skill-based OMM assessment and Medical Teaching. They also work in conjunction with the appropriate Course Directors, Department Chairs, and Assoc./Assist. Deans to ensure these experiences align with curricular needs.  The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Clinical Medicine, collaboratively teaches, develops, and implements the teaching of clinical Osteopathic skills and small group teaching skills in clinical topics.
    • Responsible for osteopathic student interviewing and curricular development.
    • Assists in identifying the learning needs of students, meeting with students for academic issues, designing collaborative action, and testing/ evaluations for related classes.
    • Research is not required, but the candidate is expected to support research initiatives by others and demonstrate behavior consistent with the strategic vision and mission of the organization.
    • Follows policies, procedures, and practices consistent with the vision and mission of the College.
    • Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging clinical OMM quality, and supports clinical Osteopathic basic theory.
    • Monitors the consistency and quality of assessment and examination.
    • Maintains good working relationships; approaches conflict resolution in a constructive manner; helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, and employees.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills:

    • The ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend solutions.
    • Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate complex theoretical and technical concepts effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
    • Sufficient analytical and computer skills to manage teaching materials.

    Minimum Qualifications for OMM Faculty:

    • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree (D.O. degree)
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in OMM  
    • Promotes an appropriate climate for creativity, collaboration, inquiry, and diversity, and ability to work with people from all backgrounds consistent with the mission of the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in student education of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
    • Interest in curricular design and implementation with prior experience in course development and education methodology preferred.
    • Willingness to learn and develop as an educator with some of our experienced educators.
    • Desire to lead and participate in medical simulation and clinical medicine teaching.
    • Optimal candidate would also be able to teach other areas of clinical medicine.
