Professor - Nursing teaches courses in the discipline area of nursing. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Nursing provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Nursing typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Assistant/Associate Professor - Graduate Nursing Program - Part Time

  • Viterbo University invites applications for a part-time, 9-month, faculty position, to teach in its graduate nursing program. This position works collaboratively with the Graduate Program Director in the instruction and supervision of graduate nursing students.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    General

    • Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy, mission, and vision of Viterbo University and the School of Nursing (SoN)
    • Implements the policies of the Graduate Program, SoN, and the University
    • Participates in SoN program assessment evaluation processes
    • Participates in graduate student advising activities
    • Demonstrates collaborative relationships with the internal and external communities of interest
    • Assists with recruitment and retention of qualified graduate students
    • Provides oversight for adjunct faculty

    Teaching

    • Creates a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning
    • Accepts accountability for facilitating effective teaching/learning activities in the classroom, online, and at practicum sites.
    • Prepares content and syllabi for assigned courses according to the curricular plan and graduate student learning outcomes
    • Demonstrates expertise in developing, conducting, and evaluating essential graduate level learning experiences within the classroom and practicum settings
    • Conducts course assessment activities to evaluate and enhance student learning
    • Makes recommendations for resource acquisitions
    • Assists in preparation of class and online schedules
    • Guides students in conducting/completing scholarly projects.
    • Prepares students to meet eligibility requirements and success on NCLEX/Certification examinations
    • Provides input into development of new programming, along with evaluation and revision of current curricula and plans of study

    Service

    • Shares talents as a resource person/mentor to colleagues and/or students
    • Participates in Graduate Program, SoN, and University committees
    • Participates in ongoing quality improvement/accreditation activities
    • Engages in community and University service activities
    • Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations
    • Participates in professional activities of the SoN and University
    • Scholarship/Scholarly work
    • Participates in scholarship using Boyer's Model: Teaching, Service, and Scholarship
    • Participates in continuing and formal educational opportunities
    • Engages in securing and supporting grants
    • Attends regional and national professional conferences
    • Carries out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned

    General Requirements/Qualifications: Meets the requirements for faculty for Viterbo University, for graduate faculty for the School of Nursing (SON), for the WI Board of Nursing, and for national accrediting bodies. Including, but not limited to the following:

    • Master's degree in Nursing required; Doctorate (or doctorate in progress) required for teaching doctoral level courses
    • Valid nursing license in Wisconsin and practicing state (if other than Wisconsin)
    • Valid nurse practitioner certification/license for each state faculty may be overseeing nurse practitioner students in clinical rotations
    • Microsoft Office 365 and Zoom/Teams proficiency preferred
    • Excellent written and/or oral communication skills required
    • Excellent organizational skills required
    • Other requirements for Viterbo University graduate faculty
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of the Employment Visa.

    Specific Requirements/Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner Faculty

    • National certification in population-focused area of practice if providing oversight of track
    • Maintains a clinical practice if teaching clinical components

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is expected to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
