    Summary of the group:

    The Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD) group is a multi-disciplinary scientific function providing expertise in Process/Analytical/Formulation/Device Development and Characterization with integrated Bioprocess Engineering, Clinical Manufacturing, and Supply Chain and Logistics operations. The group is also responsible for transferring the processes to different clinical and commercial sites in and outside the AstraZeneca organization. BPD group is present in multiple sites in US and UK.

    This position is in Early Stage Formulation Sciences within BPD, responsible for designing and developing formulation and Drug Product presentations from pre-clinical through Phase 3 clinical trials and in support of commercialization.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Perform research in state-of-the-art laboratories that are focused on formulation and process development of biologics

    • Evaluate protein formulation development, characterization and stability testing

    • Make in-depth experimental observations, analyze and interpret experimental results, present scientific data to internal and external audiences

    • Functional representative on CMC teams

    • Author CMC sections for regulatory filings

    Education & Experience Requirements:

    Education:  

    Scientist: BS or MS in Chemical/biochemical engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field 

    Senior Scientist: MS or PhD in Chemical/biochemical engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field 

    Experience:  

    Scientist: BS and 3 , or MS and 0 years of relevant experience  

    Senior Scientist:MS and 3 , or a PhD and 0 years of experience  

    Required Skills:

    • Knowledge of antibody and/or general protein sequence and structural analysis

    • Experience with formulation development, biophysical characterization and stability testing of proteins

    • Science oriented, highly motivated self-starter with drive to succeed

    • Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary fast paced environment

    Desired Skills:

    • Knowledge of Design of Experiments and statistical principles.

    • Knowledge of stability and rheological properties of high concentration formulations

    • Knowledge of delivery devices and combination products  

    • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and as a team member within a matrix environment.
