Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Primary Purpose

    • To provide a system for the management and accountability of instructional materials and other classroom supplies for students with disabilities, including procedures for acquisition, inventorying, processing, circulating, accounting for and evaluating them in order to affect maximum utilization of state and locally allocated funds;

    and to maintain a responsible working relationship with personnel of the district, Region IV Education Service Center, and the Texas Education Agency in order to ensure that delivery services are not duplicated.

    Qualifications :

    Education / Certification :

    • High school graduate or GED
    • Must have an Associate’s Degree or have a minimum of 48 semester hours of higher education coursework or pass a district test

    Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

    • Must be able to type and possess other secretarial skills
    • Effective communication, human relations and leadership skills
    • Proficient in use of digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Microsoft , ARD / IEP Software, BPlus and Learning Management Systems

    Experience :

    Three years of Alief Special Education experience

    Major Responsibilities and Duties :

    • Work under minimum supervision to manage the ASF / SERS environment to promote a positive, smooth running workplace through effective communication and organization.
    • Maintain an operational SERS in accordance with TEA guidelines and policies of the Alief ISD that offer materials, services, training and dissemination of pertinent information (e.

    g. review and delivery systems, circulation procedures, etc.) to eligible users.

    • Maintain a positive demeanor and attitude while meeting work expectations and handling unexpected interruptions including general office questions, warehouse staff, phone calls and staff visits.
    • Establish and maintain a responsible working relationship with administrative, accounting, warehouse, purchasing, technology and instructional staff.
    • Assist the Director of Special Education or designee to develop and update local policies and guidelines as needed which ensure that special education materials are available for students identified with disabilities.
    • Support the instructional program for students with disabilities by providing eligible special education and regular classroom staff with materials in a timely manner and in accordance with SERS procedures.
    • Design and deliver effective communication (flyers, procedures, emails etc.) and plan meetings, in such areas as : operational procedures of the SERS, pick up and drop off of materials, updated purchasing procedures, policy and / or guidelines, warehouse adjustments and changes and technology.
    • Update and maintain the inventory and catalogue of new and existing special educational materials.
    • Prepare and submit purchase orders for materials to be purchased from designated SERS funds, and to account for all state and local funds utilized in the purchase of special education instructional materials by established accounting procedures.
    • Support SPED staff in the areas of : Petty Cash Custodian, submitting print orders, managing and maintaining the editable reinforcement program, coordinating HS staff workers and oversee laptop distribution, records management and maintenance
    • Assist the Director of Special Education or designee in evaluation procedures to determine the effectiveness of services rendered by the SERS.

    Other

    • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
    • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
    • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Non-Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

    Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
