Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring a Special Education Teacher for Early Childhood Special Education at Pleasant View. This individual will ensure students with special education needs receive world-class instruction in all content areas. Our teachers must also work to build safe, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, social workers, school psychologists, SLPs, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in special education with a focus on ECSE
    • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with special education endorsement (will be required to enroll in program if don't currently possess)
    • Previous successful elementary teaching experience in urban setting


    Job Responsibilities
    • Demonstrate passion for and expertise of working with students with learning disabilities
    • Provide world-class instruction in literacy, math, and other content areas to students with special education needs
    • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
    • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
    • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
    • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
