Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Work in partnership with parents, students, and general education teachers at our partner schools in accordance with the school’s mission and vision in order to promote student achievement. The following responsibilities and duties are the means to achieve that end, while maintaining compliance with Federal and State Regulations. 


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

    • Assess students’ skills at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to determine their needs, develop instructional plans, and see progress- using STAR 360 Reading /Math, instructional rubrics, and formative/summative assessments.
    • Adapt lessons to meet the varying needs of each individual student- using ACCESS Points, iXL, AR, BrainPop, and other teaching/curriculum resources.
    • Plan, organize, and assign activities that are differentiated and specific to each student’s abilities using their SP/IEPs.
    • Submit weekly lesson plans to administration through the Teacher Shared Drive include ACCESS Point Standards.
    • Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one.
    • Create and Implement goals for students’ SPs (IEPs) based on assessments and observations, assess students’ performance, and track their progress weekly using formative and summative assessments.
    • Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, therapists, and administrators through email communication, phone, or face-to-face conferences. One scheduled parent/teacher conference is required per year in January to discuss students strengths, progress, areas of need, and review/establish goals. 
    • Collaborate and coordinate with the other MSCS teachers, and general education teachers of our partner schools if it applies, job coaches for the Life Skills and/or Job Training Courses to differentiate instruction in the different subject areas and life skills curriculum, then formally evaluate them at the end of the year. 
    • Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities.
    • Provide weekly newsletter to the parents of the current week’s schedule and skills being taught, as well as upcoming events/news, after approval from administration (send to principal for review prior to sending out to parents).
    • Prepare and help students with the requirements and skills needed to transition from grade to grade and after graduation.
    • Perform any other duties assigned by principal.

    Requirements


    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (preferred).
    • Current Florida Teaching Certificate (Required).
    • Must be ESE Certified.
    • Previous teaching experience in special education, teaching children with Autism, Down Syndrome, and other developmental and learning disorders.
    • Must speak English.
