Job Title: Project Accountant
Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
FLSA Status: Exempt/Salaried
Work Schedule: Full time; Monday-Thursday (4-10’s)
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the CFO, the Project Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting and financial tasks for Swift & Staley Inc. on-site projects and corporate office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees all audits performed on behalf of the Department of Energy (DOE) including coordination of audits, pulling requested information, and answering questions
- Performs monthly accounting closings
- Reviews all account reconciliations for completeness and accuracy; prepares selected account reconciliations
- Reviews all invoices processed by Accounts Payable (A/P), checking to ensure the correct charge code is being applied and the proper approvals are obtained
- Ensures all activities of the department are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and that accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations
- Assists with additional ad-hoc projects/assignments as requested
- Focuses on the flow of accounting functions to ensure all activity is being processed accordingly
- Demonstrates professionalism and maintains a high level of confidentiality
- Reviews and submits certified payroll ensuring David Bacon Act is followed
- Maintains an effective level of communication with vendors and subcontractors to ensure proper documents are submitted
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND KEY COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Master’s degree preferred
- Four or five years related experience, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience
- Experience working at a DOE facility is desired
- Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) experience is a plus
- Knowledge of accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), general ledger (GL) entries, reconciliations, month-end close processes, budgets, and financial reporting
- Knowledge of KY Sales & Use Tax is a plus
- Advanced computer skills with accounting software and Microsoft (MS) Office products, specifically Excel
- Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
- Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) is a plus
- Extraordinary attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to interact with others.
TRAINING, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must be a citizen of the United States and authorized to work in the US
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government vehicle
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation favored, but not required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to meet the physical capacity requirements of this position as determined by the Occupational Medical Provider
- Able to wear company-provided personal protection equipment if/when required
