Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sustaining Engineering Manager to lead our sustaining engineering team and drive initiatives aimed at improving product reliability, quality, and longevity.

    Position Overview: As a Sustaining Engineering Manager at UCC, you will be responsible for managing and leading engineering focused on sustaining and enhancing our existing products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to address product issues, implement improvements, and ensure the long-term success of our product portfolio.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of sustaining engineers.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, manufacturing, and quality, to address product issues and implement solutions.
    • Monitor and analyze product performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Develop and execute strategies to enhance product reliability, quality, and longevity.
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) for product issues.
    • Manage engineering change requests (ECRs) and coordinate with stakeholders to implement changes efficiently.
    • Develop and maintain a product lifecycle management (PLM) strategy to support ongoing product improvements and updates.
    • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve production processes and ensure product quality.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to sustaining engineering processes.
    • Maintain and update product documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in sustaining engineering.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
    • Proven experience in engineering management, particularly in a sustaining engineering role.
    • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team.
    • Solid understanding of product development and manufacturing processes.
    • Proficiency in root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies and problem-solving techniques.
    • Fabrication and welding experience a plus.
    • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and processes.
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and collaborative environment.
    • Detail-oriented and results-driven with a commitment to quality.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to small engines, vacuum systems, and pressure systems is beneficial.
