Project Management Director develops and directs project management operations and strategic planning to meet organizational goals. Provides overall strategic governance for projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools used for effective project delivery. Being a Project Management Director establishes methodologies to set productivity and quality targets and to assess results for all projects. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Project Management Director monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and to propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a project management certification. Typically reports to top management. The Project Management Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Project Management Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Assistant Director of Project Management will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating multiple complex projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. This role will collaborate with Institute, Market, and Enterprise leaders to manage projects and program portfolios that support Value Operations priorities, with impact on outcomes, relationships, and reimbursement.

    • Has knowledge of population health management activities.

    • Can build and manage relationships across multiple Cleveland Clinic entities.

    The caregiver will be expected to travel to locations within the health system as required based on  circumstances  related to individual projects and initiatives. This would include regular attendance at leadership meetings in Independence.

    Responsibilities:

    • Defines projects and programs in collaboration with key stakeholders.
    • Assembles project resources and develops plans via work breakdown structure.
    • Executes project and program plans; assigns and tracks work.
    • Transitions projects and programs to functional owners.
    • Manages stakeholder relationships, project risks and project changes.
    • Supports portfolio management and review.
    • Recruits, selects, orients, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees; communicates job expectations; plans, monitors, appraises, and reviews job contributions; plans and reviews compensation actions; enforces policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • Manages and allocates resources across projects according to priorities, schedules, expertise, and budgets.
    • Executes project and program plans; assigns and tracks work.

    • Manages stakeholder relationships, project risks, and project changes.
    • Supports portfolio management and review.
    • Identifies project, program, and portfolio priorities, implements opportunities, addresses challenges and barriers, and identifies and mitigates project risks and opportunities.
    • Recruits, selects, orients, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees; communicates job expectations; plans, monitors, appraises, and reviews job contributions; plans and reviews compensation actions; enforces policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field.

    Certifications:

    • None required.

    Work Experience:

    • Five years experience in managing improvement projects.
    • Experience in Six Sigma or Lean preferred.
    • Healthcare experience preferred.

    Preferred Work Experience:

    • Demonstrated leadership ability and management of high-performing teams.
    • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate and maintain relationships.
    • Effectively coaches and train teams as well as other population management caregivers around influencing others and change management concepts.
    • Ability to assess and develop necessary skill set within assigned project management team.
    • Helps coach others to improve and shape communication (written, verbal, presentation, listening, etc.), situational awareness, and non-verbal cues in a variety of environments.
    • Entrusts others to carry-out specific responsibilities or achieve specific goals by providing challenging work, clear vision and direction; along with reasonable oversight to ensure quality and timeliness.
    • Ability to gain commitment from others, negotiate expectations, cope with mixed motivations, overcome resistance, address concerns, and find a path to forward progress.
    • Portfolio management knowledge to deliver results while balancing the capacity of the team vs the demand of the customers.
    • Expert level utilizing CI (Continuous Improvement) tools (e.g., VSM, VM, 5S, Process Map, Pareto, A3, etc.) and change management techniques. Statistical analysis expertise a plus.
    • Able to navigate and operate in the organization at all levels to achieve results using industry knowledge.
    • Proven ability to be flexible, adaptable, and resourceful.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
    • Healthcare experience preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
    • May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations throughout the health system to attend meetings.
    • Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.
    • Must have own transportation to travel to multiple sites.

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures. 

    Pay Range

    Minimum hourly: $44.53

    Maximum hourly: $67.92
