PART-TIME SCHOOL COUNSELOR at PROOF SCHOOL

Proof School seeks an individual to provide counselor services for a small school community, consisting of approximately 120 students (100 families) and 25 faculty/staff members. Depending on the successful candidate's preference, the scope of the job can range from quarter time to half time, corresponding to one or two days on campus per week, with some work done off campus.

The half-time position includes full benefits and an initial salary range of $51,000 to $68,000; the quarter-time position is hourly, with an expected rate of $70–$120 per hour. The work largely takes place during the school year, comprising approximately 36 weeks, excluding breaks.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Proof School was founded on the premise that kids who love math would thrive in a community of students who share that love and adults who are eager and able to nurture them. We are a full curriculum school. Our vibrant, small community prizes curiosity, initiative, and persistence. The school is located in downtown San Francisco and serves some of the most motivated students in the Bay Area, with some students commuting more than an hour each way for a transformative liberal arts education.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate’s core responsibilities include:

• School engagement On most Wednesdays, we pause academic classes and utilize the morning hours for other school activities. During this time there are occasions for a counselor to engage with the community, such as meeting with students one-on-one, running group workshops, checking in with teachers on issues that arise in the classroom, and connecting with the admin team.
• Faculty and staff developmentThe entire staff meets once every seven weeks throughout the school year, on Fridays, providing an opportunity to run staff workshops and attend faculty meetings. Additionally, we expect to schedule remote consultations with faculty.
• Parent enrichment workshopsWe are interested in running parent workshops, ranging from general interest sessions to topics for specific parent groups, such as parents of college applicants, neurodiverse learning, and anxiety.
• Administrative/PlanningWe expect time will be needed to document work, keep notes on student and school meetings, and do longer term planning.

HALF-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Half-time employment qualifies for full benefits, including healthcare, dental, vision, life insurance, a flex spending account, commuter benefit, and—beginning in the second year of employment—contributions to a retirement plan. The half-time position includes the core responsibilities above and further programming that the candidate might lead at Proof School, such as translating student accommodations into meaningfully effective learning plans, observing classroom interactions, developing protocols, and attending parent meetings.
