The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Legislative Proofreader in the Legislative Services Department. This position is nonpartisan in nature and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.

The individual selected for this position must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a public service orientation with the ability to maintain a good rapport with LRC staff, state employees, and the public. The individual must be able to work under stress, with the understanding that during legislative sessions and occasionally during the interim period, working significant amounts of overtime will be required.
This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits including health and life insurance; retirement plan; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with prior approval.
Job Duties:

Proofread all documents with a keen eye for detail, typographical errors, formatting, and language that might be inflammatory or political.
- Edit for content, grammar, clarity, phrasing, style, tone, and organization.
- Compose and edit letters, questionnaires, citations, and other documents.
- Assist other staff in making corrections to work product to convey a professional impression on behalf of every legislator.
- Perform necessary research to verify information contained in the document.
- Report repetitive mistakes to Supervisor for Legislative Services.
- Adhere to LRC writing style manual.
- Develop and present training workshops as a professional development tool for LRC staff, upon the request of legislative services supervisors.
- Assist Citations Proofreaders when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
