A core component of this effort is the International Programs team, which organizes governor-led trade missions, sector and geography-specific business trips, and industry trade shows to help Utah companies grow international sales, strengthen their supply chains, and access international investment opportunities.

    Position Description
    The Manager of International Programs is accountable for leading the organization’s efforts to develop and execute these programs, recruiting Utah businesses to participate in these international business trips, managing the program financials, including working with private and public stakeholders to manage program funding. The Manager of International Programs may also serve as a specialist on international policy issues, including how geopolitical trends affect international business.

    Responsibilities

    • Deliver high-impact trade missions, trade shows, and business trips. Please see 2024 Planned Travel Schedule attached below.
      • Organize 1-2 governor-led trade missions per year. This includes end-to-end responsibility for building the trade mission goals, setting the agenda, planning the logistics for the trade mission, setting and managing the budget, identifying sponsorship opportunities, recruiting Utah businesses to participate in the trade mission, traveling on advance trips to prepare the program, and ensuring successful execution of the trade mission.
    • Organize 2-3 industry- or sector-focused business trips per year. This includes end-to-end responsibility for setting impact goals, building the agenda, planning the logistics, setting and managing the budget, recruiting Utah businesses to participate, and ensuring successful execution of the business trips. This position works closely with the Global Business Services team and other International Program team members.
    • Organize 5-7 trade shows per year. This includes providing oversight and strategic guidance for identifying shows, registering and setting up our presence at the shows, recruiting Utah businesses to participate in shows, representing Utah to other international trade associations, and managing Utah businesses to ensure effective participation and generate significant new trade opportunities from the shows.
    • While working with the Finance and Grants team, advocate for and manage the STEP grant applicants who are interested in participating in Trade Shows and Business Trips.
    • Build WTC Utah’s network of international partners and develop strong relationships with local government officials, industry associations, and business leaders.
    • Coordinate cross-functionally with other WTC Utah departments and teams to improve communication and optimize services.
    • Support programming for inbound trade missions and other foreign delegations as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • Ability to think critically and interest in developing expertise in international business and/or international affairs.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ (or at least 50 engagements) relevant experience in international business, international affairs, project management, trade show planning, and/or operations.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Basic understanding of financial accounting, ordering and booking management, and survey analysis.
    • Experience interacting with senior government and business leaders.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • This position is based in Utah but would be expected to travel up to 8 weeks per year on various trips around the world.
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, Salesforce.com, and Asana as the suite of products to track and report status and to coordinate and communicate with team members.

    • You will report directly to the Managing Director of International Programs who will set organizational goals and direct the overall strategy of the division.
    • Your success will be measured based on your ability to professionally deliver trade missions, business trips, and trade shows that are on budget, on time, and drive new trade opportunities for Utah businesses.
