Job Description

At a high level the planning function is pretty straight forward. The complexity is in the details, as many projects have specific/unique requirements that need to be clearly understood and accounted for.

Services & Deliverables Performed

Coordinate with project managers, system designers, and implementers to complete pre installation planning tasks.

Interpret server connectivity requirements/building blocks

Work with local resources to determine network equipment and cabling needs, twinax/copper/fiber, optics, etc

Interface with vendor representatives to obtain quotes and place orders

Create network designs that outline both physical and logical connectivity,

vlan assignments (Production, mgmt, backup, etc, request new VLANs if needed, public/private (clustering)

obtain IP addresses and request DNS entries

server to switch cable mapping, build, management, production, oob

Issue work orders for cabling and network configuration/port turn up.

Track and document the status of dependencies, deliverables and retain all project artifacts

Key Skills

Attention to detail/organizational skills

Ability to multitask, often have multiple projects, spanning multiple sites, at various points in the project life cycle.

Basic understanding of network infrastructure/LANs, trunking, bonding, subnetting.

Basic familiarity with various types of servers and storage device requirements, Linux, Windows, VM/ESXI, Avamar, Data Domain, Pure Storage Arrays, NetApp, among others.

Communication skills, the ability to explain technical details to a non-technical audience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

CCNA is plus but not required
