Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The Office of International Programs (OIP), previously referred to as the Office of International Education and Development, is responsible for facilitating global engagement efforts at Appalachian State University (App State). App State combines a strong liberal arts foundation with a comprehensive, pervasive, and integrated commitment to global engagement. App State's global engagement efforts aim to develop awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and respect of cultural differences in domestic and international contexts in its students, faculty, and staff. The University is also dedicated to creating a campus environment that builds the theoretical and practical skills needed to interact effectively in a global society. Through curriculum, co-curricular activities, relationships with scholars and students from around the world, education abroad programs, grants and scholarships for collaborative research abroad, and numerous cross-cultural programs, App State creates opportunities for students to understand the world and be active participants in it. The Assistant Vice Provost for International Programs interacts with many campus partners including, vice-chancellors, associate and assistant vice-chancellors, vice provosts, deans, academic department chairs/academic program directors, and non-academic department leaders.
