Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     As a psychiatrist at Hazelden Betty Ford, you would join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who assess and treat patients who suffer from chemical dependency and mental disorder, and participate in enhancing mental health care delivery in a multidisciplinary, Twelve-Step based treatment environment.

     

    Psychiatrists at Hazelden also help educate staff on best practices in the management of co-occurring disorders.

     

    Hazelden Betty Ford Psychiatrists work collaboratively with others to ensure the best possible holistic treatment for our patients.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Current active state MD/DO license
    • Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry
    • Competence in addiction treatment
    • Previous experience in addiction treatment, including Twelve Step approaches
