Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice. Shenandoah Community Health (SCH) is recruiting a General Psychiatrist for a full-time outpatient position to serve our growing Behavioral Health Services Team. The psychiatrist position is part of a collaborative team of providers including social workers, nurses, psychologists, professional counselors, recovery coaches and support staff, serving patients in Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan County, WV and Winchester, VA. Currently services are being provided via both in-person appointments and telehealth.

This position is primarily responsible for the psychiatric evaluation of assigned patients in the clinical program. Services may include individual, group or family therapy, psychopharmacology and consultation, in collaboration with the treatment team.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such may be gained through education, training and experience.
