    REPORTS TO: Medical Assistant Supervisor

    DEFINITION OF POSITION: Assist licensed nursing staff in delivering care to patients in the office setting. Operate within scope of practice under supervision and order of nursing staff and physicians. Become familiar with policy and procedures and adhere to established standards. Demonstrate initiative, good decision making skills, and teamwork while working with patients, staff, supervisors and physicians. 

    IGA is committed to the attainment and maintenance of an ergonomically healthy workplace to protect all employees. Safe working conditions are a top priority. Our goal through the support of physicians, administration and staff is to create a culture of ergonomic safety. Staff is encouraged to ask for assistance when moving patients or heavy items to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. All concerns from staff are to be forwarded to the Administrator to facilitate correction of any scenario where staff may feel a risk may occur. Adequate lighting should be maintained and workstations will be equipped for ergonomic safety. Staff is encouraged to wear nonskid footwear, remove, or eliminate all clutter, cabinet doors should remain closed, spills will be wiped up immediately, cables will be kept out of traffic flow areas 

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1. Provide patient services that do not require a professional license to perform 
    2. Practice under the supervision (not necessarily directly) of a licensed professional 
    3. Actively engage in your training as an assistant to the assigned licensed professionals and ancillary staff 
    4. Do not perform a task that you are uncomfortable performing 
    5. Maintain computer skills required to function in EPIC, Phreesia, Epic and Idaho Health Data Exchange programs 
    6. Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain copy machine and facsimile machine, tiff files, scanned documents
    7. Maintain HIPAA compliance (patient privacy) 
    8. Collect and record patient data when rooming patients and performing tele health visits
    9. Vital signs, Reason for Visit, Allergies, Immunization history, Medication list, Family/Social history,  previous surgeries and diagnostic procedures, Demographics including patient pharmacy, Import patient medical history from Phreesia 
    10. Keep patient record tidy with current and accurate information 
    11. Index documents in the patient electronic record 
    12. Relay information from the patient to the Provider  
    13. Communicate late patient arrivals or No-Show appointments to Provider and assist in re-scheduling process if needed 
    14. Assist in gathering additional records that would support patient treatment 
    15. Track and merge incoming results for lab, radiology, pathology and procedures on all office visits and endoscopy procedures performed at hospital or MEC/BEC/CCEC
    16. Tracking Hepatitis C labs per protocol, communicate with nurse navigator for education, ensure office visits for follow up per protocol. 
    17. Assist in retrieval and communication of hospital services provided by physician; tracking of results
    18. If certified, assist in providing phlebotomy and other lab services as needed
    19. Perform task of the Recall system for future ordered office visits, lab and radiology on a routine basis. Follow policy and procedure 
    20. Assist with Nurse Navigators and Provider’s inboxes for result notifications, documents, and messages 
    21. Contacts patient by phone, mychart message or letter regarding normal results and recall appointments 
    22. Helps reception with any incoming calls as needed 
    23. Keep exam rooms tidy and clean, stocked with supplies needed by the Providers 
    24. Assist with keeping staff lounge neat 
    25. Utilizes Microsoft Outlook email for non-patient correspondence and EPIC staff messages for patient care correspondence/documentation. 
    26. Demonstrates respect of IGA policies for security, privacy and confidentiality while using IGA equipment. Follows personnel policies within the IGA personnel manual 
    27. Immediately reports any network, hardware or software malfunction to IT via help desk ticket system
    28. Communicate pertinent information to others 
    29. Other duties as assigned 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Graduate of a Certified Nurse Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant program 
    • Maintains Basic Life Support certification

    • Infection Control, CDC
    • OSHA Manual
