Psychologist - M.A. evaluates patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. Being a Psychologist - M.A. uses talk therapy to treat patient illness or distress, cannot prescribe medication. Requires a master's degree in clinical psychology. Additionally, Psychologist - M.A. requires a valid state license to practice. Typically reports to a medical director. The Psychologist - M.A. work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. To be a Psychologist - M.A. typically requires 7+ years of related experience.   • Definition: The Medication Aide - Certified (MA-C) is part of and functions in the context of the Nursing Department. The MA-C is responsible to administer medications, check vital signs, and perform resident personal care and other nursing duties as directed by the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing and/or Charge Nurse.

    Expectations of All Employees:

    • Information: Personnel file is current and updated as needed; including but not limited to, credentialing certificates and licensure, current home phone number and address.
    • Resident Relations: Familiar with Resident Rights, Committed to keeping resident information confidential, committed to the practice of Validation Therapy as a means of communication with residents. Practices courtesy and respect in relations to residents, families and guests of Harris HealthCare.
    • Teamship: Understanding and practice of good team skills among coworkers. Conducts oneself in a mature, positive, progressive and professional manner. Committed to keeping coworker personal information confidential. Practices courtesy and respect in relations to coworkers.
    • Work Habits: Neat and Clean in appearance. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Flexible in job assignments. Demonstrates organization skills. Prompt and consistent attendance. Characterized by honesty, integrity and confidence. Shows initiative and creativity in work assignments. Acceptable communication and public relations skills. Demonstrates effective use of work time.
    • Workplace Safety: Practice safety; including but not limited to, proper hand washing; obeying OSHA, state and facility workplace safety regulations, policies and procedures and maintaining uncluttered, clean and safe work environment.

    Qualifications

    1. Completed the State approved Nurse Assistant Class and Medication Aide Certification Class.
    2. Maintain current certification as a Nurse Assistant and Medication Aide-Certified.
    3. Sufficient documentation, typing and computer skills.
    4. General understanding of the aging process and the changes associated with aging.

    Responsibilities and Tasks

    1. Administer medications according to state approved procedures and Harris HealthCare Policy and Procedures.
    2. Administer medications only after identification of resident.
    3. Chart each resident's medication as given. (DO NOT CHART IN ADVANCE OR WAIT UNTIL ENTIRE PASS IS COMPLETED.)
    4. Verifies consumption of medication.
    5. Do not leave medications at bedside, dining room table, or otherwise unattended.
    6. Check for new medications and notes pertaining to changes in orders.
    7. Check that labeled instructions and medication administration records have identical information.
    8. PRN medications are given with the approval of the Charge Nurse.
    9. Chart the reason for administering PRN medication and response to the medication.
    10. All residents receive their medications at the times ordered.
    11. Any omission is noted in the record and reported to the Charge Nurse.
    12. All documentation is accurate and timely.
    13. Assists in providing a safe environment for the residents. (Observes for spills on floor, appropriate use of restraints, bed rails, etc.)
    14. Check and chart vital signs and report abnormal signs and symptoms to the Charge Nurse.
    15. Answers call lights and perform resident’s personal care as needed.
    16. Clean and disinfect items after each use of a resident.
    17. Clean walkers, canes, furniture, shelves, and equipment PRN.
    18. Report any necessary repairs to be done to the Charge Nurse.
