Public Relations Manager develops and implements policies and procedures for the public relations department. Maintains favorable public image for employer or client by communicating programs, accomplishments, and/or points of view. Being a Public Relations Manager evaluates all forms of communications before release to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of message and authorizes release. Prepares and distributes news releases, fact sheets, scripts, etc. to media outlets. Additionally, Public Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Public Relations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Public Relations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Sun PR is looking for a PR Manager to contribute to the success and growth of its dynamic team of communicators.

    Sun PR is a full-service communications agency focused on helping companies and NGOs identify and build engaging narratives tailored for key audiences to steer industry dialogues in new directions. With a focus on climate tech and sustainability, our teams create compelling content for earned and social media communications strategies to reach a wide variety of our clients’ stakeholders, including customers, investors, policymakers and academics. Based in Austin, Texas, our clients are addressing global climate ambitions and societal challenges with technical ingenuity and advocacy.

    This role will be based in Austin, Texas. While day-to-day work is remote, the Austin team will meet in-office bi-monthly.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with client communications teams to understand their markets, business and/or advocacy goals; operate as an extended part of client’s marketing/comms team
    • Manage or co-manage day-to-day activities, including communications strategies, drafting and editing press releases, blogs, social posts, earned media pitches, briefing documents, etc.
    • Ensure all communication is cohesive with clients’ brands, advocacy and/or marketing goals
    • Closely track and anticipate client market trends and drive proactive media and social strategies
    • Conduct media relations with U.S.-based technology, climate and energy reporters
    • Develop and manage news and social content development strategies for clients
    • Identify and build relationships with new media contacts and strengthen relationships with existing journalists and influencers
    • Track and analyze media and social coverage
    • Provide social support to clients, including managing social tools
    • Serve as a regular point of contact for clients offering consultation
    • Create and manage weekly status reports and monthly activity reports
    • Provide new business and/or operational support to Sun PR, as needed

    Required Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications
    • 4-6 years of experience in public relations or corporate communications at an agency or in-house
    • Must have climate, energy and/or technology communications experience
    • Strong writing and storytelling skills
    • Former reporter or member of the media ideal, but not required
    • Excellent communication, writing, organizational and project management skills
    • Flexible, must have ability to prioritize and reprioritize tasks and take initiative without a lot of formal training
    • Fast learner and persistent regardless of challenge of task at hand
    • Savvy technical skills, including Excel and PowerPoint experience
    • Extensive experience with social campaigns, measurement, and reporting
    • Nuanced understanding of earned media and how reporters like to receive information

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
