Alameda Electrical Distributors & California Service Tool is looking for a full-time Director of Purchasing to join our ALCAL team. The preferred location for this role is at our branch in Hayward, CA, though it can also be based out of our other branch locations.
The Director of Purchasing leads overall procurement activity for ALCAL, coaches and oversees the Purchasing team, and has overall responsibility for managing and maintaining optimal inventory levels for the company.

Responsibilities:-
Negotiates optimal terms with key vendors. Works directly with buyers to negotiate major purchases and special buys.

Ensures staff is well trained, performing their duties effectively and assists where necessary.

Maintains overall inventory integrity is preserved by the purchasing team and directly on key lines.

Ensures that buyers manage requests from inside, counter, and outside sales on a daily basis.

Works with key vendors regularly to creatively improve pricing, optimize inventory and service levels and makes sure our needs are being met.

Manages inventory performance which includes keeping dead and excess stock, in all branches, to a minimum. This also includes maintaining acceptable turns and GMROI performance.

Ensures that we use and support preferred suppliers as much as possible, negotiates optimal terms on a going basis and ensures ALCAL remains in good standing with those suppliers, relative to terms.

Conduct vendor rationalization and line reviews.

Make sure system pricing is accurate and reflects current market conditions.

Works with buyers to ensure acceptable and expected inventory levels are maintained in all branch locations.

Reviews freight, transfers and other costs associated with stock purchases and continually optimizes across the branch network.

Maintains accurate product files in all aspects: item description, minimum buy package, etc.

Reviews procurement queue to make sure buyers order items in a timely fashion.

Clearly understands all aspects of their main computer operating system’s inventory control and purchasing modules.

Makes sure purchase orders are getting expedited in a timely manner.

Resolves price discrepancies with vendor with account of the main computer operating system’s inventory control and purchasing modules.

Makes sure purchase orders are getting expedited in a timely manner so we do not loser cash discount terms.

Continually works to meet performance goals as jointly agreed to with the VP of Operations.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management or related field with specific coursework in industrial distribution management or equivalent on the job experience as determined by the company.

Minimum of 5 years of purchasing background with previous experience leading a team.

Electrical and Tool industry experience highly desired.
Computer Skills:
-
Proven proficiency in general personal computer application, as well as the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Eclipse software experience highly desired.
