Purchasing Director manages procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Director collaborates with other functions to define current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Implements processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Director oversees auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Purchasing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Purchasing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     JOB SUMMARY
    We are seeking a skilled and committed hospitality professional for the position of Purchasing Director at the Boston Harbor Hotel. This position is responsible for the ordering, receiving, storing and issuing of goods while maximizing profitability. The Purchasing Director will oversee all distribution of hotel inventories and supplies, while working closely with various departments in sourcing products, supplies and materials as well as managing inventory controls to meet department’s needs.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    Education:
    Bachelor’s degree, preferably specializing in Business Administration and/or equivalent experience is required.

    Experience:
    Must have at least two (5) or more years of purchasing experience in a hospitality environment, with previous experience in a luxury environment preferred. Other related/equivalent experience may be considered.

    KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
    The primary responsibilities for the Purchasing Director will include but are not limited to:
    • Manage the day-to-day activities and assignments of the Storeroom Team.
    • Provide an organized method to ensure efficient product flow.
    • Maintain a well-organized, easily inventoried storeroom with agreed upon par levels to ensure efficient operations.
    • Ensure the Receiving Clerk maintains accurate detailed records of all deliveries through direct supervision and approval of all daily logs.
    • Ensure the Receiving Clerk approves the quality of product, especially perishable items, as the items enter, while ensuring produce is dated and rotated.
    • Work closely with Food and Beverage control to ensure all cost factors are under scrutiny, such as receiving logs, meat tag system, inventory accuracy, inventory turnover, and product rotation.
    • Alert the Executive Chef when pricing changes occur or product specifications become a problem.
    • Ensure the accuracy of perpetual beverage inventories and maintain proper par levels.
    • Directly supervise inventory levels of dry goods through the coordination with the Storeroom Attendant and Executive Chef.
    • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventories daily and month end, by active participation and supervision.
    • Identify slow moving stock, and report to food and beverage control.
    • Effectively schedule staff to ensure maximum efficiencies of excellent service/low labor cost.
    • Anticipate needs through forecasting, utilizing Banquet menus, Occupancy forecasts and Department Head meetings.
    • Comply with all Safety Standards.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    • Strong organizational and analytical skills, along with demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with maximum efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
    • Ability to exercise sound logic and judgment in evaluating situations and utilizing appropriate resources.
    • Must be self-directed, motivated and demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing. A second language is desirable.
    • Must have experience in all Microsoft Office and industry relevant Purchasing systems.
