Purchasing Supervisor supervises daily procurement and purchasing operations and implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates pricing, monitors performance, and expedites to respond to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Being a Purchasing Supervisor collaborates with other functions to meet current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels. Utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, Purchasing Supervisor performs auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Purchasing Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Responsibilities include supervising and supporting the activities of purchasing personnel in achieving facility targets in addition to coordinating other departmental activities. Also, will be responsible for performing activities that involve acquiring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, etc. at a senior level. Qualified individual should have at least 5 years of purchasing experience and knowledgeable in the material and tools used within construction, preferably shipbuilding. Also, must have good communication skills, the ability to supervise and ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives in addition to being proficient in using MS office applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook. Previous experience in a supervisory role, working on government contracts and using Oracle are preferred.
