Medical Records and Quality Assurance Coordinator
Overview:
We are seeking a diligent and organized Medical Records and Quality Assurance Coordinator to join our medical office team in Dewey, Arizona. The primary responsibilities of this role include managing medical record requests received from various entities, prioritizing urgent requests, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Additionally, the role involves quality assurance tasks such as reviewing care gaps with payors, scheduling patients for necessary screenings and follow-ups, and attending meetings with insurance payors to assess progress and quality of care.
Responsibilities:
- Review and audit medical records to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations
- Conduct regular quality assurance checks to identify any discrepancies or errors in medical documentation
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to address any issues or concerns related to documentation quality
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall accuracy and completeness of medical records
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices related to medical record documentation
- Generate reports and metrics on quality assurance findings for management review
- Prioritize urgent requests and ensure timely completion
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
- Review care gaps with payors and facilitate closing annual care gaps
- Schedule patients for annual physicals and screenings to close care gaps
- Attend monthly meetings with insurance payors to review progress and quality of care
- Follow up with patients after hospital visits
- Other duties assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred
- Level 1 fingerprint clearance card
- 21 years of age or older
- CPR and First Aid certification
- TB skin testing
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare or related field setting
- Prior experience as a medical records coordinator preferred but not required
Qualifications/Skills:
- Proven experience working in a medical office setting, with a strong understanding of medical records, terminology, and documentation processes (1 year minimum)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in medical records
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems (Eclinicalworks experience preferred)
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and other relevant healthcare compliance standards
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
