    Qualifications


    The Midrex Quality Control Engineer manages and coordinates the quality program for multiple large scale industrial DRI plant projects simultaneously. He/she integrates quality related activities into the overall project plan and maintains constant communication with team members in engineering, procurement, and construction. He/she will interface regularly with equipment suppliers and fabricators as well as serve as a client liaison on all quality related matters and audits. He/she will regularly advise Midrex management of equipment and material quality status including potential problems and resolutions. He/she will also represent projects during internal and external audits. The Quality Control Engineer is a critical position within Midrex and ensures that the quality of the products delivered to customers meet or exceed expectations.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • This position may have direct reports as the role develops and/or the business levels justify additional help.

     

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Leads all quality activities on projects, communicating with engineering, procurement, and construction, to ensure goals and objectives are met.
    • Review customer specifications and identify any special requirements. Ensure special requirements are incorporated into the project quality plan and the applicable Inspection & Test Plan (ITP).
    • Coordinate and assist in the development of project specific quality plans, inspection checklists, and documentation requirements for equipment manufacturers and fabricators.
    • Reviews project schedules for quality related activities to ensure timely and effective implementation of the project quality plan requirements.
    • Reviews and approves quality related procedures to ensure compliance with the project quality plan.
    • Initiates and/or coordinates stop-work action, when warranted.
    • Monitor performance of suppliers and provide reports to project team members and customer representatives; this includes performing source inspection and directing third party inspectors.
    • Works closely with engineering, procurement, and Project Management to resolve issues and institute corrective actions.
    • Maintains client liaison and communication for project quality related activities.
    • Prepares reports on the effectiveness of the quality program/plan implementation.
    • Maintains log of all warranty issues and manages warranty issues to completion

     

    Skills/Abilities:

    Required:

    • 8 years of quality control/coordination experience on heavy industrial projects.
    • In depth knowledge of steel fabrication practices, particularly welding, heat treatment, and NDT. Experience should include structural steel, pressure vessels, fabricated ducts, piping as well as other steel fabrications. Should also have experience with carbon, stainless and other alloy products.
    • Extensive knowledge of US welding and fabrication standards including ASME Section II, V, VIII, IX, B31.1, and API specifications. Working knowledge of European and other international equivalents.
    • Experienced in contracting and supervising 3rd party inspection companies.
    • Experienced in performing Root Cause Evaluations and Corrective Action Programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond quickly to deadlines and problems requiring immediate action.
    • Proficient in technical writing
    • Exudes confidence and is extremely comfortable holding vendors and teammates accountable.

    • Strong understanding of ISO Quality Programs.
    • Skilled at Continuous Improvement Processes.
    • Ability to interface with all levels of the project team, Midrex senior management, clients, vendors, construction partners, etc.
    • Must be a critical thinker with a focus on solving and overcoming challenges.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills to clearly communicate project quality requirements and findings equipment manufactures & fabricators, clients, and within Midrex.
    • Proficiency with other common computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, SharePoint, Power BI, Adobe PDF, etc.).

     

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering/science discipline or significant (10 years) related work experience.
    • Certification as one or more of the following: Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP) and/or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI).
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or demonstrated ability to achieve the certification within 6 months of hire.
    • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certified

     

    Travel Requirments:

    • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally frequently and on short notice.
    • Travel demands change throughout the project lifecycle with lower demands early in the project during the engineering phase and with higher demands procurement phase. During the procurement phase, travel both domestic and international expected to be more than 50%.
    • Able to work flexible work hours.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to freely move around a manufacturing, fabrication, and project sites, including climbing large structures.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
