Under the guidance of the Senior School Support Officer, the Director of School Support and Improvement will play a significant role in supporting and creating conditions to foster continual improvement among charter schools in New Orleans. This position requires one to consistently work across a diverse group of stakeholders, inside and outside NOLA-PS, to identify, analyze, understand and formulate solutions best suited to ensure maximum impact at both the district and school level. Areas of policy and practice development are constantly emerging, but priority areas include teacher and school leader talent pipelines, post-Covid-19 recovery(e.g., learning loss, social- emotional wellness) student wellbeing, school safety, curriculum implementation and operational efficiencies. The Director will be expected to directly support charter school leaders and their teams when challenges arise that must be addressed at the local or state level. Given that NOLA-PS is a premier portfolio school district and presented with governance and policy development challenges unique to such a system, a successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial critical-thinker with a deep commitment to uncovering solutions to increase the efficacy of both NOLA- PS and individual charter school organizations.
\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Customer Service and Support
• Directly support and engage school leaders regularly on their needs to increase organizational effectiveness and increase student achievement;
• Serve as a contact and support for a caseload of charter school operators;
• Build relationships with school leaders and school staff and school staff across city schools;
• In collaboration with the SSI team, executes strategies to improve communication to schools and regularly proposes and drafts information to be considered for inclusion in the Weekly Charter Newsletter and School Leader meetings;
• Serve as the school liaison and district coordinator of support services for schools that are in the NOLA-PS Local Education Agency (LEA), which includes: serving as the primary point of contact for staff; regular communication and coordination with department leads for LEA functions (Exceptional Children’s Services, Federal Programming, Data, Testing); providing regular communication to schools; facilitates problem-solving through coordination,
and develops an understanding of LEA functions to ensure schools are meeting obligations in LEA agreement and receiving the support services needed. (this only applies to one SSI director position)
Strategy Development and Data Analysis
• Evaluate and manipulate a variety of data on school performance, including but not limited to state testing data, charter operating agreements, and Charter School Accountability Framework requirements(academic, financial, and organizational performance metrics)to inform school support and improvement strategies, policy, practice discussions, and development;
• Develop on going training opportunities, create exemplars, and share resources with schools that address needs within priority school improvement areas;
• Independently generate and propose solutions to address specific school needs that arise by engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders;
• Serve as a resident expert in one of the following areas, depending on past experience, and skill set, to lead initiatives and bring expertise to the team:
o School Turnaround
o Charter School Authorization
o Instructional Leadership
o Project Management
o School-based Data and Analytics
o Teacher/Leader Talent Best Practices
o School Climate and Culture
• Research, develop and plan for implementation of subset policies, practices, and plans that directly impact NOLA PS meeting its organizational goals and strategic priorities related to school operations and improvement;
Communication and Coordination
• Consistently engage with NOLAPS staff across divisions to increase effectiveness and efficiency when supporting, engaging, and communicating with schools (e.g., federal programs, diverse learners, etc.);
• Works collaboratively with other School Support and Improvement team and Student Support Division members to identify and develop solutions to emerging issues and execute department/ division priorities and responsibilities;
• Regularly communicate, coordinate and liaise with state and local experts and partners that have experience and knowledge related to the given issue or topic;
• Communicates effectively with colleagues, school leaders ,and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, orally and in writing;
• Participates in meetings, working groups and workshops to convey and/or gather information required to perform essential job functions, provide thought partnership, or support the strategic communication of information to schools; and,
• Stay abreast of information schools need and determine the best and most efficient way to relay information to schools, that is in line with state, local, and federal policy and provides opportunities for additional supports and resources(e.g., scholarships, partnerships, etc.)
School Improvement
• Research, identify and develop plans with schools to implement best practices in school improvement, specific to the local public charter school context, including both instructional practices and school culture/climate;
• Identify factors that contribute to school renewal/non-renewal and develop school improvement plans to assist schools in achieving their growth and performance goals;
• Provide schools with access to resources and tools in identified areas of need to improve progress toward school-level priorities and goals; and,
• Evaluate and report the impact of school support in the areas listed above;
• As needed, provide direct oversight, support or leadership at a school in need of additional support due to academic performance or non-compliance.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Public Policy, or similar field required;
• Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred;
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience required;
• Work with or in charter schools strongly preferred;
• Experience in school leadership(teacher leadership, administration, or principal)required;
• Knowledge of and familiarity with Louisiana Charter School policy and law strongly preferred; and
• Knowledge of state and national best practices in charter school authorization strongly preferred.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
