    Clinical Effectiveness (CE) supports clinically focused improvement endeavors to understand, improve and sustain high-value, patient-centered care across the community. Under the direction and in support of CE, Quality Performance Improvement (QPI) and Quality Assessment and Accountability (QAA) advance organizational priorities aligned with strategic and annual operating plans, CE Priority Scorecard Measures, and quality goals. In partnership with clinical and operational leaders, QPI and QAA team members implement sustainable improvements to ensure UChicago Medicine practices evidence-based care with high reliability, transform health care by testing new ways to deliver evidence-based care, and solve the challenging problems in healthcare through innovations.

     

    QPI and QAA team members skillfully apply methods and tools within the core competencies of quality improvement and process improvement, project management, and group facilitation to achieve project aims aligned with organizational goals. Team members work effectively with diverse roles across the system to identify inefficiencies, develop solutions, and lead improvement initiatives across the system. 

     

    Essential Job Functions: 

    • Assist in the strategic planning, development and maintenance of cascading quality plans tied to long term quality goals
    • Partners with the quality physician lead to formulate long term strategic plan as well as annual goals, targets and plans
    • Oversees the prioritization and portfolio of quality projects in partnership with the QPI director and area quality leaders
    • Demonstrates ownership and provides updates at committee level meetings, influencing the success of program objectives
    • Identify, coordinate, and manage several related projects to advance the strategic goals of the program
    • Measure the value and impact of the program and take accountability for meeting program goals
    • Provide regular updates to sponsors on program progress, milestones, and barriers
    • Guides and coordinates communication strategies that impact program stakeholders and accounts for project interdependencies
    • Oversees the planning, design, implementation, and completion of the project as identified by the supervisor and project sponsor
    • Execute the project plan and provides daily support for moving the project forward on large strategic initiatives. Collaborates and oversees the project management of projects within the program
    • Identifies and communicates alignment and impact of project plans on related projects within the team’s portfolio and across the organization
    • Proactively anticipates project risks and establishes contingency plans for project success
    • Identifies project needs with project sponsor and supervisor and facilitates the project initiation process
    • Expertly facilitates the use of standard QI and PI tools
    • Designs a comprehensive approach to meet projective objectives that makes appropriate use traditional QI and PI tools. Applies novel methods to enable project success
    • Provides mentorship and guidance to UCM staff on use of QI tools/approaches. Teaches QI to healthcare professionals
    • Navigates and facilitates the distinction between quality improvement and research, and the potential intersections, providing coaching and guidance on proposals and grant submissions
    • Provides operational oversight of team members and contributes to the design of department processes that facilitates professional growth and advances core competencies across the team
    • Formally mentors project coordinators and project managers by providing coaching on project strategy and professional development opportunities
    • Responsible for the work products of mentees and team members supporting projects that aligned with program(s)
    • Develop and carry out the strategy for the facilitation of large, complex, multidisciplinary meetings and design sessions
    • Develops coherent, actionable summaries from the input of many stakeholders generated during meetings and design sessions
    • Facilitates decision making to achieve consensus on plans and next steps with stakeholder buy-in
    • Expertly navigate relationships and problem solving during meetings with front line staff, hospital leadership and C-suite
    • Employs advanced facilitation strategies consistently maintaining presence, engagement, and control in order to develop effective teams
    • Collaborate with data teams within UCM to ensure data and analytics needs of assigned projects are satisfied and garner the most effective clinical monitors and insight to drive improvement, while allowing for efficient analytics processes
    • Identify data collection and analysis needs as appropriate when relevant data does not exist electronically, design efficient data collection and analysis plans to meet those needs
    • Collaborate data teams within UCM on measure development, analysis, and report generation processes
    • Utilize available benchmarking data and tools (e.g. PHIS, HDI) to identify and prioritize opportunities within a portfolio or program

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a Health Care, Engineering, or Performance Improvement field or equivalent
    • Possess a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a healthcare, performance improvement, project management, or other advanced position
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff, including physicians and administrative staff
    • Experience facilitating groups with many different stakeholders
    • Ability to elicit cooperation and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external leaders
    • Knowledge of performance improvement techniques and methodologies
    • Ability to lead complex, interrelated portfolio of projects, using program management tools and techniques
    • Ability to set strategic vision for portfolio/ program and is accountable for all quality-related operations and goals in the focus area to have a major impact on clinical operations and outcomes in that area
    • Ability to manage, interpret, and present data
    • Self-motivated: given appropriate direction for goals, must be able to work autonomously in a sometimes ambiguous and changing environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or another health care-related field
    • Possess a minimum of 5-7 years’ Performance Improvement experience in Hospital, or large Health System
    • Experience with clinical terminology

    Position Details: 

    • Job Type/FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)
    • Shift: Days – 8 hour shift
    • Unit/Department: Office of the CMO

    Must comply with UCMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process.
