Job Summary:
The Assistant Quarry Manager oversees the production processes and people of the open pit limestone quarry in daily work activities. The Assistant Quarry Manager ensures that the related processes, from drilling to delivery to the primary crusher, meet or exceed established specifications and production requirements. The Assistant Quarry Manager will lead and drive a progressive approach to Safety by sustaining or enhancing local practices, processes, tools, and training programs needed to ensure total effectiveness within the Quarry team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe workplace and work culture.
- Assists in meeting budgeted production targets for both mining and stripping.
- Maintain environmental compliance.
- Assists in management of data capture including but not limited to SAP inputs, timecard maintenance, blast reporting.
- Assists in management of employee productivity, job performance, and overall production efficiencies within the quarry.
- Assists in implementing training plans to provide employees with the necessary training to perform their job safely and effectively.
- Review barriers identified during shift turnover meetings to develop and monitor action plans to overcome the obstacles.
- Verify procedures and work instructions are effective and being followed.
- Provide feedback to the maintenance team to support operational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with work instructions to define and control the production process.
- Assist in overall plant planning, selecting the proper equipment and establishing the required manpower levels.
- Know and follow the collective agreement.
- Assists in overseeing overtime requirements to meet sales, production, and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure the execution of the daily production plan and oversee necessary arrangements to keep plant running during breakdowns; generate maintenance request notifications as needed.
- Attend and provide input during the daily meetings.
- Review barriers identified during shift turn over meetings to develop and monitor action plans to overcome the obstacles.
- Assist in explaining significant variances from daily plan and recommend changes that will upgrade the running of the limestone facility.
- Must be able to provide assistance, as needed, with coverage in shop with machinist, millwrights and mechanics (along with contractors).
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mining environment.
- Positive and proactive attitude with ability to address issues and implement solutions.
- Understanding of basic workings of heavy equipment.
- Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and willing and able to adapt to fast-paced changing environments.
- Know and follow the collective agreement.
