Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Job Summary: Designs and develops radiation therapy patient treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with radiation oncologist's prescription. Understands the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology in the management of cancer or other disease processes, with special expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning, technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical / radiation physics.
Qualifications: Current and active registration as a Radiation Therapist, RT(T), by the ARRT and certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (CMD) required (if not certified, must obtain certification within 12 months of hire date). Graduate of an approved American Medical Association program in medical dosimetry or two (2) years experience as a medical dosimetrist required. Associate’s Degree in an applied science discipline (medical imaging, radiation therapy) from an accredited educational program preferred. Prefer experience with the Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning system. Excellent communication, critical thinking, problem solving and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and in full collaboration with a team.
