Radiologic Technologist performs radiological imaging examinations of patients using both stationary and mobile radiographic equipment. Positions patient as needed to obtain optimal images and prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Being a Radiologic Technologist develops exposed X-ray film, ensures proper film identification on all images, and creates x-ray CD copies. Files films, maintains medical records, and performs other related administrative duties. Additionally, Radiologic Technologist typically requires an associate degree in a related area. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. The Radiologic Technologist works under moderate supervision.     JOB SUMMARY

    The Radiologic Technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients’ service on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area/department’s policies and procedures.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Current Wyoming Radiologic Technologist licensing and registration

    Current ARRT in Radiography

    Ability to work in at least one modality listed below.

    EXPERIENCE

    Able to perform all diagnostic exams as related to assigned modality.

    SKILLS

    Tech I – ARRT or ARDMS in one modality (i.e. ARRT general radiography or ARDMS one category)  

    Tech II – ARRT or ARDMS certified in two modalities/ARDMS categories.

    Tech III - ARRT or ARDMS certified in three modalities modalities/ARDMS categories.

    Tech IV - ARRT or ARDMS certified in four modalities modalities/ARDMS categories.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

    BLS

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Must provide radiographic examination of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgement in performance of procedures applying principles of radiation protection.
    • Performs diagnostic medical radiography within department and other areas.
    • Maintains patient records and files.
    • Assumes responsibility for departmental quality assurance program involving the area of radiographs.
    • Pursues continuing education.
    • Transfers patient to and from radiology.
    • Responsible for development of films.
    • In absence of supervisor, is able to assume responsibility of department.
    • Rotates shifts as required.
    • Performs ancillary duties as requested by supervisor.
    • Follows policies and procedures as set up by CRH Administration.
    • Assists in general hygiene of department and self.
    • Should be able to work well in situations of stress.
    • Must be willing to able to take call.
    • Must be willing to learn other imaging modalities as Director sees fit.
    • Must be able to perform duties in one field outside of routine radiography and willing to work outside of modality, i.e., Ultrasound, MRI, C.T., Nuclear Medicine or Mammography.
    • Must maintain competency in ancillary modality as described in addendum.
    • Able and willing to perform other duties as assigned.

    NUCLEAR:

    • Responsible for record maintenance and NRC compliance.
    • Responsible for care of equipment in this area.
    • Consult with referring physicians.
    • Able to perform venipuncture.
    • Alter routine protocols to provide quality care to pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
    • Thorough knowledge of NRC regulations, license requirements and radiation safety.
    • Provide radiologist with high quality diagnostic images for interpretation.
    • Continue to seek education within this modality staying abreast of changing technology.
    • Daily/Weekly QC

    MAMMOGRAPHY:

    • Is able to perform the following:
      • Breast needle localization
      • Specimen radiography
      • Quality control
      • Screening
      • Diagnostic
      • Stereotactic breast biopsy
    • Actively pursues five CEU’s Mammography credits per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in Radiology
    • Performs 100 mammograms per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements and kept in Radiology

    ULTRASOUND:

    • Perform all requested exams for diagnostic interpretation by a radiologist.
    • Continue to seek a higher level of education with RDMS certification as a goal.
    • Pursue continuing education to fulfill radiology and/or RDMS requirements.
    • Responsible for care of transducers.
    • Responsible for neatness of work area.
    • Responsible for paperwork that accompanies procedure
    • Assistance with ultrasound invasive procedures.
    • Participate in the preparation of policy and procedure in this area.
    • Consult with referring physicians.
    • Care of glutaraldehyde station.
    • Assists with preparation of vascular lab license.
    • Actively pursues education in a changing field.

    MRI:

    • Technically able to perform all requested procedures or to improvise with new studies.
    • Responsible for care of coils.
    • Responsible for paperwork that accompanies procedures
    • Active part of policy and procedure preparation in this area.
    • Converse with referring physicians regarding imaging procedures.
    • Able to perform venipuncture.
    • Magnet safety/ patient and staff.
    • Able to perform quench procedure.
    • Cleaning area.
    • Processor care.
    • Daily/Weekly QC

    CT/ INTERVENTIONAL:

    • Responsible for care of equipment in this area.
    • Responsible for record maintenance.
    • Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.
    • Active part in the preparation of procedure in this area.
    • Consult with referring physicians.
    • Strive towards the goal of venipuncture.
    • Follow standard precautions procedure.
    • Alter routine protocols to provide quality care to pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients.
    • Change contrast levels per age group.
    • Set up and run automatic injector.
    • Familiar with contraindications of contract.
    • Competent in tele-radiology transmission.
    • Competent in sterile technique.
    • Actively assists in supply inventory and ordering.
    • Daily/Weekly QC

    SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

    Attends department/organizational meetings, in-services and disaster drills.
