    Reports To: Coach and Property Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Lead Supervisor, and Property Maintenance Supervisor

    Type of position: Non-Exempt / Hourly 

    Employee Classification: Regular

    Location: Various locations primarily Bryson City, NC

    Compensation: $13-17 hr. DOE and Certifications

    Job Summary:

    Property Maintenance Worker is responsible for the upkeep of Great Smoky Mountains Railroad’s building facilities and grounds. Performs the tasks involving production, construction, operating, maintenance, and material handling. Assist is the creation, set-up, upkeep, and on-going maintenance of railroad special events.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Special events set-up and break down including but not limited to sets, tents, lights and decorations.
    • Construct and create new props, cut outs, games and activities for themed events.
    • Provide immediate response to requests for assistance to events in progress.
    • Create a pleasant, attractive, and inviting event area with emphasis on safety (fences, cones).
    • Perform landscaping of GSMR grounds and event site grounds.   
    • Repair walls, chairs, equipment windows, decks as needed.
    • Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs to equipment and vehicles.
    • Complete electrical, mechanical, plumbing, remediation work and maintenance requests. 
    • Maintain parking areas and improvements (grading, filling, and drainage).
    • Maintain and repair of ice machines, tents, bounce houses, tables, chairs, games, and shop areas.
    • Work with other departments as part of a team to provide passengers/guest with positive memories.
    • Additional projects and duties as assigned by management. 

    Requirements

    Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:

    • Minimum two years of related job specific work experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, maintenance repairs, and supervising staff.  
    • Exhibit good judgement and decision-making skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
    • Must possess organizational skills with ability to multi-task while prioritizing workload with practical, flexible and innovative approach to work.
    • Fosters trust and open and honest communication/feedback with the internal team and partners. 
    • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.   
    • Required to have strong organizational, communication, time management skills, as well as an attention to detail.
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.  
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to reach common goals.  
    • Ability to communicate successfully with a variety of personalities and function effectively as a member and leader of a team.
    • Valid Driver License. 
    • Must successfully complete and achieve a passing score on a WorkSTEPS physical evaluation.  
    • Pre-Employment & Random Drug Testing program in compliance with company policy. 

    Work Environment:

    • Work within a shop setting and outdoors 
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on the changing priorities of the department including day, evening and weekend shifts.   
    • Ability to be on your feet for up to 12 hours.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
    • Capability to work in hot humid and/or cold environments.
    • Capability to stand, kneel, and /or crouch for long periods of time.  
    • Assist in the loading of various vehicles with equipment.
