The Position
Under general supervision a Parks and Recreation Coordinator organizes, coordinates, oversees and participates in the activities of one or more parks and recreation programs at a community service center or other location; leads/oversees assigned staff and performs related work as required.
Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:Graduation from high school plus two years of study at an accredited college or university towards a degree in Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration, one of the social sciences or a related field.
AND
Two years of experience in the delivery of parks and recreation programs in a public or not-for-profit agency to include some experience in program/project development.
The ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs including weekends, evenings, holidays and overtime.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Parks and Recreation Coordinator will be placed on an eligible list which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
