    Purpose
    Coordinates and leads recreational and special events activities; recruits, hires, and trains employees; creates and maintains program schedules; coordinates schedule of volunteers; makes recommendations on new activities and policies; all within the context of the City's Mission of providing responsive, cost effective, and innovative local government services through a collaborative effort with the community to make Concord a city of the highest quality.
     
    Working Conditions
    Conducts work in an office setting and outdoors. Includes working irregular hours during the evenings, and on weekends, and holidays to attend meetings, community functions/meetings to resolve problem/issues and represent Parks and Recreation and/or Public Works at various activities.
     
    Physical Demands
    Emphasizes hearing, speech, and vision. Work includes moderate lifting, carrying, stooping, and reaching.
     
     Supervisory Guidance Received/Given
    This position receives direct supervision from Director of Parks and Recreation or Director of Public Works.  Employee provides work direction and a limited range of supervisory authority (not full supervision) including interviewing, recommending hire, and scheduling personnel. Work also involves training new employees and providing lead direction of job activities.
     
    Essential Job Functions

    1. Plans, coordinates, and leads recreational activities such as adult sports, aquatics, camp concord, community events, summer camps, and youth sports and services.
    2. Oversees and assists with developing program schedules, obtaining facilities, and creating marketing tools to publicize events.
    3. Meets with community groups, activity participants, and other agencies to publicize and market events and activities.
    4. Conducts new hire interviews, provides input on work performance, resolves employee conflicts, provides on-the-job training, and coordinates employee workflow.
    5. Oversees scheduling of volunteer workers.
    6. Maintains program budgets and provides input on staffing and cost estimates.
    7. Makes recommendations on new programs and activities as well as changes to established activities and practices.
    8. Creates and implements marketing plans for events and programs, creates promotional materials.
    9. Attends meetings, answers/makes phone calls, operates office equipment, gives presentations and completes other clerical duties as neede
    10. Other duties as required.

    Education:  Possession of a bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or related curriculum is desirable.

    Note:  Incumbents assigned to the Aquatics program must possess WSI, Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certificates at the time of hire and complete the AFO/CPO course work within the 6-month probationary period.
