    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Parks and Recreation Coordinator performs administrative duties, oversees, and administers daily activities and functions of the Parks and Recreation Department, and assists the public in a positive, clear, and concise manner. This position has a flexible weekly schedule with working hours during evenings and weekends. Assignments are performed under the direction of the Director of the Department or other designated Township official. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting the public, answering telephone calls, handling recreation registrations, scheduling of Community Room, assisting with events.

    TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK

    • Performs registrations, collects fees, and distributes recreation tickets.
    • Handles walk-ins, telephone, and electronic inquiries regarding events, classes, and basic information on Township requirements and procedures.
    • Assists with maintaining Recreation Office supply inventory.
    • Assist with parks and equipment safety inspections.
    • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service, delivery, methods, and procedures; identifies opportunities for improvement.
    • As directed; coordinates department activities with those of other departments, outside agencies and organizations; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary communications.
    • Responds to and resolves sensitive inquiries, concerns, and complaints from both internal and external sources.
    • Attends assigned Parks and Recreation Board meetings.
    • Assists and documents the use of recreational fields and facilities by sports organizations.
    • Assists and attends required Parks and Recreation events.
    • Record & transcribe Parks Board meeting minutes.
    • Assist in creating and developing new programing for the Community Room and other departmental events.
    • Occasionally provides backup for the front desk team.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and equipment
    • Knowledge and the ability to use computer hardware and standard office software, including financial software.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to make mathematical computations name and number comparisons with speed and accuracy.
    • Ability to organize tasks to meet required timelines.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
    • Ability to work independently on difficult or complex assignments.
    • Ability to maintain records and prepare accurate reports.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and diplomacy in dealing with the public and coworkers.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, other government agencies, and the public.
    • Ability to attend all training as required.
    • Ability to lift light to heavy weight objects (up to 50lbs.).
    • Ability to regularly report to the job at assigned times and perform assigned duties.

    MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred.
    • Two years of experience in a front-line office environment, local government experience with parks and recreation
    • One year of experience in customer service work
    • One year of experience in organizing, maintaining, and managing recreation-related activities
    • Experience in computer hardware/software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
    • Any combination of education and experience that indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed herein.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES

    • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to pass physical/medical tests, including functionality test.
    • Ability to pass drug-screening test.
    • Ability to pass psychological exam.
    • Ability to pass background investigation.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • The work requires a high degree of mobility.
    • The work is generally performed in an office setting but frequently involves visits to other Township facilities, parks, professional offices, and institutional facilities.
