Join our Health & Wellness team and assist in the development and implementation of programs and processes that support the business and Suncor’s enterprise wide industrial (occupational) hygiene program. As the Senior Industrial Hygienist, you will steward standards, guidelines, processes, and procedures with the aim of minimizing the risk of occupational illness due worker exposure to hazards.
Working at our Commerce City refinery, which is the largest refinery in the Rocky Mountain region and the only petroleum refinery in Colorado you will coordinate with multiple internal stakeholders in operations, maintenance, engineering, turnaround, as well as external contractors, you will maintain workplace health and safety by identifying, evaluating, and controlling exposure to occupational health hazards including chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic.
Minimum Requirements:
- Five years of work experience within the Industrial Hygiene (IH) field
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related environmental field
- Previous experience in a refinery, petrochemical or other industrial setting preferred
- Working knowledge of industrial health and safety legislation, product safety, chemical management, community response (e.g. noise/odors, etc.)
- Experience conducting hazard assessments, field IH sampling, and developing control programs
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation or membership in good standing of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) would be considered an asset
Responsibilities:
- Conduct workplace assessments to identify, quantify and control risk to people, property, and equipment to identify and mitigate potential site chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards
- Provide technical support to site Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) peers with evaluation of health hazards, recommend mitigations, and validate effectiveness of controls
- Interpret and apply IH processes (including respiratory protection, hearing protection, radiation safety, etc.) and validate organizational compliance
- Develop IH governing documents
- Coordinate or supervise work with external consultants and ensure their safety when at site
- Ensure privacy and confidentiality processes are followed to maintain confidentiality of health and exposure records
Location and other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Commerce City refinery, located at 5801 Brighton Blvd.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs, including being on-call as appropriate and potentially working night shifts as necessary during large scale outages, turnarounds, and/or emergencies
- You will be required to use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces

Salary and Compensation Details:
- $110,000 to $127,000 annual salary and an annual incentive (bonus) program; our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
