Job Summary And Qualifications
Manages the day-to-day operations of the Behavioral Health Nursing Department through effective utilization of self, shift House Supervisors, and Charge Nurses.
- Acts as a consultant to and works with Director of Operations in development of department’s strategic plan, policies and procedures, standards of care, patient and family education, quality initiatives, staff orientation, competencies and satisfaction measures.
- Stays abreast of HCA Behavioral Health corporate initiatives and facilitate implementation, meeting targets on time, as directed by the director of operations.
- Assist in utilization of appropriate care pathways and standards of care. Facilitates research and evidence based practice in a manner that advances clinical practice and meets quality indicators.
- Provides for recruitment, orientation (in collaboration with department preceptors), mentoring, coaching and disciplinary guidance as needed to meet and maintain established quality indicators and clinical safe and best practice.
- Serve as the behavioral health representative on the hospital-wide professional development counsel.
- Facilitates the Behavioral Health unit-based council and completes an annual evaluation of staff’s educational needs, develops, and implements a plan to meet those needs yearly in collaboration with the market educator.
- Demonstrates personal professional growth and leadership through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations. Maintains own clinical competency by working in units, as indicated.
- Reviews new therapeutic interventions, technology and equipment. Brings improvement ideas to appropriate Service Line Council for consideration. If adopted, keeps staff current in utilization.
- Participates in Behavioral Health Process Improvement activities.
- Supports initiatives related to maintaining survey readiness and compliance with accreditation and other regulatory agencies requirements (TJC, OSHA, etc.).
Experience & Education:
- Licensed Registered Nurse in VA - Required
- Bachelors of Nursing Degree - Preferred
- 2 years as Nursing Manager, Supervisor or Clinical Team Lead in Behavioral Health - Preferred
