    Job Description

    The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is a leading research facility dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge through nuclear research. As a prominent institution in the field, MURR is seeking a highly skilled, creative, and meticulous individual within the Regulatory Assurance division. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in identifying potential compliance risks, function as a liaison between the NRC & DOT agencies, while assessing the possible licensing frameworks MURR will need to undertake in the future and leading colleagues through regulatory decision making.

    This position will be the primary contact for all matters related to and concerning MURR's reactor and material license and activities around shipping of regulated nuclear materials. The majority of its responsibilities will be in communication with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Department of Transportation (DOT) to ensure MURR has accurate, complete, and appropriate licensing and compliance through the interpretation of federal and regional regulations, including international when applicable. Given the nature of the work, this position will need to be comfortable with a high level of ambiguity and thrive in an environment of uncertainty, with problem solving, nuanced communication, and strategic decision making as primary job expectations.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities:
    * Coordinate the planning and execution of license amendments (shipping and reactor licenses)
    * Oversee the licensing and compliance of a MURR-specific Type B packaging and certification management process.
    * Regulatory communications liaison between NRC and MURR, including crisis communications (24-hour timeline) during event.
    * Nuclear quality assurance to audit and assess for compliance gaps.
    * Research and remain current with changes in applicable regulations, standards and guidance.
    * Assessment of proposed activities against shipping and nuclear material licensing/regulation
    * Collaborate and determine the licensing model feasibility on future MURR-related facilities and entities

    Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm

    Minimum Qualifications

    A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Master's degree in a related field such as engineering, regulatory affairs, or physics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    - Work experience in the nuclear or legal sector, with engineering background preferred.
    - Technical experience or expertise with nuclear licensing, whether materials or reactor.
    - Experience working with nonpower reactors is highly desirable.
    - Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
    - Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
    - Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Anticipated Hiring Range

    Salary Range: $78,516.60 - $161,595.20 per year

    Grade: GGS-013
