    Job Summary :

    The Human Resources Specialist will assist with labor relations and human resources matters, processing, preparing, gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for contract and policy development, investigations, and negotiations.

    Supervisory Responsibilities :

    Salary Range : $40,000 46,000

    Duties / Responsibilities :

    • Conduct District recruiting, job postings, new employee onboarding, background screening, and processing
    • Process employee change actions upon new hires, resignations, staffing changes, etc.
    • Interpret collective bargaining agreements and ensure compliance
    • Enters absences and assists with correcting issues with the District’s absence program.
    • Ensures teachers are in compliance with teacher certifications and Section 1526 Professional Development
    • Oversee Worker’s Compensation and OSHA / MIOSHA Compliance and administration
    • Responsible for handling and processing unemployment claims
    • Coordinates District-wide Safe Schools programs, online training, and ensures annual compliance.
    • Maintains and provides necessary updates to the District employment webpage.
    • Perform daily tasks in accordance with Board of Education policies and District rules / regulations
    • Process benefits enrollments, including annual open enrollment. Ensures accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide accurate eligibility information
    • Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
    • Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
    • Processes and maintains recordkeeping related to hiring, termination, leave, transfer, and promotion particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.
    • Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policies, compensation, and other labor negotiations;

    collects information and reports results to the Executive Director of Human Resources.

    • Processes Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for all employees and coordinates with payroll to ensure accuracy.
    • Manages criminal record check system for applicants and new employees.
    • Responsible for ensuring compliance of electronic fingerprinting completions
    • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
    • Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, affirmative action plans, organizational charts, labor agreements, and employee handbooks.
    • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for contract negotiations, meetings, and negotiations with employee and labor organizations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Must possess a thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
    • Must possess an ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community
    • Experience with recruitment and onboarding and knowledge of labor laws
    • Punctual, regular, & consistent attendance is required.

    Required Education and Experience :

    • Associates degree is required
    • At least three years of professional human resource administration required with experience in employee relations is required.

    Preferred Education and Experience :

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Accounting, or related field preferred
    • Experience working in a K-12 Human Resources department is preferred.
    • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

    Physical Requirements :

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
