Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare determines the extent to which patients' insurance covers their treatments. Reviews appropriateness of CPT-4/ICD-10 coding and determines if care provided corresponds to the charges submitted. Being a Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations and company policies that govern Medicare and state payment systems. May assist in identifying fraudulent non-plan billing practices and assists the legal department with litigation preparation. Additionally, Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA. The Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. We’re growing rapidly and we’re seeking motivated, customer oriented, passionate coworkers to join us. We’re currently seeking a full-time Materials Specialist, primarily working from our business office in Leawood, KS, but to also support all of our Ascentist clinics, located across the KC Metro area. *Travel to other offices, as needed, will be required.*

    Our Materials Specialists are responsible for all aspects of materials, from ordering supplies/equipment to collaborating with managers and physicians as to what is needed and ensuring supplies are received to the correct location, in a timely manner, to ensure a positive, quality patient experience.

     

    Essential Functions

    Perform a variety of tasks in support of daily operations, including but not limited to:

    • Performs procurement functions for medical supplies and equipment. Including vendor contact, pricing, purchase order generation, approval and processing.
    • Inventory control: Monitors, rotates stock and removes all outdated and overstocked materials; makes stock level adjustments as needed.
    • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service.
    • Daily par replenishment task, counting, picking, stocking par rooms. Communicate concerns, make suggestions to increase or decrease inventory.
    • Collaborates to develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas.
    • Maintains storage area in accordance with fire and safety regulations.
    • Reviews surgical log in advance to ensure proper supplies and equipment are available when needed. Procuring needed supplies while cost containing freight and stock charges.
    • Completes receiving tasks, ensures accuracy of shipments, entering receipts in purchase order and notifying staff of high value items arrival, securing stock and ensuring inventory reflects correctly.
    • Contributes to Organizational and Departmental goals.
    • Communicates back order concerns, working with clinical staff and vendor representatives to identify available substitutes and procuring needed supplies.
    • Assist materials staff across all organizational entities as needed.
    • Collaborate with vendors to ensure products and equipment are ordered, shipped and available in the appropriate time frame.
    • Must possess the ability and willingness to travel to other locations, as needed.
    • Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times.
    • Participate in various educational/training as required.
    • Comply with HIPAA, Joint Commission Standards, State and Federal Regulations.
    • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
    • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.
    • Maintain knowledge of and comply with established policies and procedures.
    • Participates in department meetings as required
    • Understands HIPAA regulations and maintains the strictest confidentiality at all times. Has read and understands the company’s HIPAA Privacy Policy.
    • Complies with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned/necessary.

     

    Qualifications

    Education, Experience & Certifications:

    • Must possess a High Diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of materials experience preferred.
    • Clean background check

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Demonstrates proven verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and understand to patients, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively use general office equipment including phones, fax machines, copiers and other similar office technology on a regular basis
    • Ability to follow instructions and respond to Managements’ directions accurately.
    • Demonstrates accuracy, organizational and problem-solving skills; demonstrates ability to look for ways to improve and promote quality and monitors own work to ensure quality is met.
    • Proven track record in ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work activities and use time efficiently.
    • Must demonstrate and promote a positive team-oriented environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to stay focused and concentrate under normal or heavy distractions.
    • Must possess the ability to manage change, delays, or unexpected events appropriately.
    • Proven track record in reliability and dependability
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks
    • Demonstrates effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with providers, patients, and team members.

    • Ability to maintain a positive, courteous demeanor with all patients and colleagues
    • Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email (Outlook or Gmail)
    • Demonstrates understanding of and experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) systems
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively use general office equipment including phones, fax machines, copiers and other similar office technology on a regular basis
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of all internal and external communications to speak, read, write and understand English
    • Ability to pass a background check
    • Understanding of and ability to comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, Ascentist Policies and Procedures and Ascentist Employee Handbook

     

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Associates Degree preferred
    • Experience working in a healthcare environment
    • Ability to speak and understand other languages.
