Renal Dialysis Technician under the supervision of a registered nurse, performs required monitoring and duties during patient dialysis treatment. Prepares machine and solutions according to protocol. Being a Renal Dialysis Technician monitors patient before, during, and after treatment. Administers prescribed treatment according to physician and nursing orders. Additionally, Renal Dialysis Technician documents all treatment details as required. Ensures patient safety and comfort during treatment. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and may require the Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) or be required to be working towards the certification. Typically reports to a registered nurse. The Renal Dialysis Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Dialysis Technician (CDT) provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Care includes taking and monitoring patient vital signs, performing blood tests, documenting appropriate patient information, preparing and monitoring dialysis equipment, and cleaning equipment
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate, or equivalent
Experience: Preferred Six (6) months of active hemodialysis patient care experience as a certified hemodialysis technician.
License/Certification: California Department of Public Health CHT certification and current CPR/BLS certification
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Monitors and documents status of vascular accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter (“CVC”) techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations
o Documents patient observations and seeks guidance when levels are out of normal range for hospitalized dialysis patients
o Reports patient parameters to registered nurse as needed
o Communicates estimated time of patient treatment with Acute Facility and confirm assigned patient’s consent for treatment, treatment orders, presences and patency of vascular access, overall patient condition, and patient availability in advance
a. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
b. Follows all clean/dirty procedures in order to eliminate cross-contamination
c. Performs cannulation using aseptic technique for needle insertion and all other required procedures
d. Disinfects machines, station area, and chairs after each patient treatment
e. Maintains a neat and clean environment
