Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) oversees all activities of a residence hall. Oversees the maintenance and renovation, purchase and inventory of supplies, assignment of rooms and summer housing, and housekeeping functions. Being a Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) is responsible for student housing assignment, maintenance of facilities, and safety of residents. Ensures students follow college/university conduct policies and takes appropriate disciplinary actions when rules are broken. Additionally, Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) room and board in the residence hall is included in the terms of employment. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments.     Dining Hall Manager

     

    Position Description
    The Dining Hall Manager is responsible for directing the orderly flow of the dining hall before, during, and after meals. They oversee the configuration, organization, and cleanliness of the dining hall (Girl HQ), including meal preparation, dining hall set-up/breakdown, activity set-up, and laundry services. They will act in accordance with the New York Department of Health (NYDOH), Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and the American Camp Association (ACA) standards while being passionate about the mission of Girl Scouting and the positive impact of camp.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise and work with Dining Hall Staff to set up prior to meals, making sure all equipment and stations are in place.
    • Communicate with the Head Cook regarding the timing and readiness of meals, ensuring that meals begin and end according to the set schedule.
    • Work with Camp Leadership and other team members to carry out staff week training schedule, including dining hall procedures and expectations.
    • Receive and oversee all food deliveries.
    • Supervise the stocking and tracking of inventory, ensuring that the storeroom is organized and clear of excess boxes/debris.
    • Maintain inventory of kitchen service and cleaning supplies.\
    • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of all dining hall equipment and areas.
    • Oversee laundry facilities, including bi-weekly linen and towel cleaning services.
    • Assist with all aspects of maintaining a clean dining hall, including supervision of sweeping and mopping and removal of trash.
    • Assist in the serving of food during meals and special events (e.g., cookouts), as needed.
    • Assist the dishwashers with the collection of dishes, as needed.
    • Maintain and follow all health regulations in the kitchen (washing of hands, keeping hair back and undercover, no open-toed shoes, no tank tops).
    • Help ensure that the camp meets ACA and NYSDOH standards; training provided.
    • Arrive promptly to the dining hall, Girl HQ, at assigned times.
    • Report all maintenance issues to the Property Manager.
    • Report incidents/accidents to the Camp Director immediately.
    • Assist campers and guide staff in emergency situations; training provided.
    • Enthusiastically participate in all aspects of camp, including staff training, team building, and debriefing.
    • Subscribe to the mission and values of the Girl Scouts by becoming a member.
    • Provide excellent customer service to other staff members, campers, caregivers, and other visitors to camp.
    • Demonstrate quick thinking and sound problem-solving techniques.\
    • Excellent communicator, calm under pressure, and works as a team player.
    • Set a good example for campers and staff regarding cleanliness, punctuality, respect, appropriate language, attire, etc.
    • Comply with all personnel policies communicated in staff training and staff manual.
    • Accept other tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Assistant Camp Director and Camp Director.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • 1-2 years' experience managing projects and supervising adults.
    • Clearance through the Sex Offender Registry and Criminal Background Check.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations.
    • Must have sound judgement in anticipating and preventing accidents and act calmly and quickly during emergencies.
    • Ability to guide/supervise children and adults.
    • Willingness to prioritize the needs of Girl Scouts and Camp Kaufmann.
    • Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and peers.
    • The acceptance and understanding that employment is at a sleepaway (overnight) camp and that work hours are irregular. Candidates must live locally or on-site and be available to work for the entire summer season (June 23rd – August 11th).
    • Demonstrate enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, integrity, self-control, and an ability to adapt well to changing situations.
    • Possess the strength and endurance required to succeed in a Sleepaway camp environment.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Holds required certifications or is willing to obtain required certifications on Food Handlers License, kitchen equipment-specific training, etc.
    • Prior professional kitchen, camp, or outdoor experience.

     

    Physical Demands
    The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

    • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
    • Good health and the stamina necessary to work in a camp setting.
    • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time while leading programming.

     

    Required

    • Candidates must be available to attend ALL trainings as needed (June 23rd – July 6th) in preparation for the summer program and work for the ENTIRE 5 weeks of camp and clean up (July 7th – August 11th). Additional certification classes may also be required. Those applicants who cannot attend these training dates will NOT be considered.\

     

    Compensation

    • $100 - $120 per diem rate range (based on experience and certifications)
    • Room and board while at camp.
    • Time off: Friday evening to Saturday evening each week.
