ABOUT THE ALX ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME
ALX’s entrepreneurship endeavour, anchored around it’s flagship ALX Ventures Program, is on a mission to support African entrepreneurs to launch successful businesses that create 1 million jobs by 2030. We design and implement a variety of initiatives, programs, events and platforms on our path to achieving this mission. In recent years, SAND has doubled down on our entrepreneurship programs because we’ve seen that over 70% of work opportunities created within our ecosystem have been powered by the entrepreneurs we help develop. We have also noticed that young entrepreneurs tend to hire their peers, and as such we need young Africans to see entrepreneurship as a “career” instead of a “backup plan.” We currently make available our ALX Ventures programs and resources exclusively to current learners and alumni of our ALX programs and strategic partners.
ABOUT THE CITY TEAM
Do you enjoy creating something out of nothing? The City Teams are startups within a larger startup. Each City Team is like a standalone business that is blazing a new path for SAND, but is supported by the history, reputation and global network of SAND’s wider ecosystem of companies and initiatives. In pursuit of our mission, we encourage autonomy, creativity, and experimentation. We embrace risks and failure. We seek those that have a beginners’ mindset, are lifelong learners, thrive in uncertain circumstances and uncharted territory, and have a deep passion for youth engagement.
