    The Visiting Assistant/Associate Director of Economic Development and Innovation works in close collaboration with the Director of Research and Program Development to identify external funding sources, develop and submit proposals, and support new and ongoing programs. These efforts will advance the University's mission to both secure funding and build programs on behalf of and for the Office of the Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation (VPEDI), the University of Illinois System, and the Illinois Innovation Network.

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Support large-sale and/or interdisciplinary proposals across the Illinois Innovation Network and key OVPEDI initiatives.
    • Work with Principal Investigators across Illinois' public universities and their partners to develop proposals for research and service, technical assistance, industry support, and community engagement spanning multiple disciplines.
    • Support the proposal development process including identifying funding opportunities and assisting with all aspects of the proposal development process prior to submission to an external sponsor.
    • Assist investigators/researchers/applicant(s) with developing the proposals, including issue identification, research, policy development, and partner development.
    • Aid as the administrative lead throughout the development process and be responsible for all proposal components and final submission.
    • Support investigators/researchers/applicant(s) with writing, editing, and reviewing non-technical aspects of proposals.
    • Assist with gathering, tracking, monitoring, and preparing reports on performance metrics and deliverables of awarded grants.
    • Assist with promoting new collaborations and research interests within and beyond the IIN and University of Illinois System.
    • Help with gathering, tracking, and analyzing related metrics and prepare reports, spreadsheets, graphics, and other correspondences for the IIN.
    • Assist with the identification of resources to advance research within the IIN and other key OVPEDI initiatives.
    • Assist with grant administration of IIN and OVPEDI funding programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or as appropriate for an Assistant/Associate Director.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
    • Years of work experience are required as follows:
      Three years of experience are required for the Assistant Director level.
      Four years of experience are required for the Associate Director level.

    Preferred:

    • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
    • Three years of experience working on developing proposals, preparing/submitting grant applications, or managing awards, including both program and financial components, from federal, state, local government, and private agencies/sponsors.
    • Experience working in higher education or with state/federal agencies/contractors/grantees in either a grants or contracting role.

    Knowledge and Experience:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience of working with a team on project related activities.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion to make sound decisions on behalf of the Office of the Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation.
    • Strong writing skills and demonstrated experience writing for diverse audiences at all levels of an organization.
    • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities to meet stringent deadlines and produce accurate, detail-oriented work.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
    • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft programs/applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Experience with cloud storage and file sharing platforms including Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Box.

    Appointment Information
    This is a Full Time 12 Months Academic Professional position(s). We are unable to sponsor an employment VISA or take over sponsorship for an employment VISA for this position now and in the future. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States with no VISA sponsorship.
